2nd or 3rd gen

My MR2 is to small so its time for an upgrade...Its been an excellent car so i'm hoping the lexus will serve me as well as the toy has....

Looking at the ES but I short on funds which means I can't jump straight into a nicer, later model 3rd gen car...

I found several older 3rd gens and many 2nd gens that are in my price range so if your had the choice, which would you choose and why???

Thanks!

3rd gen FTW! Newer, bigger and more refined.

Hell you can get into an 00-01 for cheap if you are somewhat patient and find one, with reasonable mileage...

I have seen countless examples of people posting up on this forum of some SWEET cheap scores.

3rd gen specifically the 00-01. you should be able to find them for a really good price.

I would agree with everyone else, the 00-01 would be my pick.

I have a 2nd gen but I would say if you want to choose between the 2 there are only a few things to consider. 3rd gen is an improvement in every single aspect bar (imo) headlights and foglights, however 2nd gen can get you a standard transmission if you are patient tnough to find one.

test drove a 2nd gen this afternoon...it drove like my dadsbuick:sad:

over assisted and lazy....uninspiring but well built

I looked at the whole range of ES's a few months back. Besides the 3rd gen being newer (granted, which doesn't always necessarily mean better, but it did in this case), it had many nice features which were great for the price. I snagged an '01 ES with 64k that was fully loaded for under $10k. Incredible condition too, the leather literally looks brand new like it just rolled off the assembly line.

Like-new ones are out there, just keep your eyes peeled.

I would say 3rd gen. We have had our 2000 ES300 since new and it hasn't had one problem. The second gens have some problems but it is still a good car. Ever consider a G2 Legend?

I did. Wanted a manual coupe with the special was it 235? horse 6. Could never find one, too rare. cool cars.

Everyone wants a six speed type II engine coupe. There are about 7K left on the road today that is it. It had 230HP. The only problem with the ES300 is that it is kinda boring to drive. That is why I chose a Legend. But both are bullet proof cars. You can't go wrong with either a Lexus or Legend.
