Used ES330 buyer's guide - seeking advice
Hi All,
I am selling my 1999 Lexus LS400 to buy a different car to get better gas mileage as I am driving a lot more for work now. I was considering a black 2004 ES330 with 102000 miles on it for $12k (it has not had the timing belt changed, I will do that, but has had all other maintenance done). I did some extensive searching but didn't find a buyer's guide on what to watch out for on the ES330, particularly the 2004 model year. Any advice? Were there transmission problems in this year?
Thanks in advance,
B

for long distance driving and such, the ls400 is fine. if youre in a city or suburbia the es 300 should be a bit better. there's not much to look out for that you wouldn't look for in any car. always look for signs of oil sludge and all the fluids condition and the pedal's condition [tells you a lot actually]. that's why lexus sells so much.
consumerguide.com has the trouble spots for every car and they're actually pretty good at it.

LS400 to a ES330 is a downgrade IMO.
I'd stick with it as the 1UZ is a very efficient motor, and the LS series is very nice and smooth to drive. Look into the GS if you own the LS. I got my ES300 for cheap; but compared to my GS300 or my cousins LS400 it's day vs. night and both the Rear Wheel Vehicles are much more refined and smooth.
