question about diameter, width, and offset
i have thoroughly searched through threads but haven't come across any definite answers.
1) i have a 2001 es300 and i'm interested in purchasing wheels that are 18x8.5. i understand i can have these wheels if i choose the correct offset. what is the correct range i should be looking for? 2) also, i want throw some tanabes on my baby by the end of the summer, so would i have to roll the fenders or make any other modifications for 18x8.5? if i need wheel spacers, what size? 3) lastly, 225 or 215 for the tire size? i just want to figure this out and decide if i should just go with something smaller in diameter so i don't have to worry about any modifications to the fenders. thanks for the help |
anybody?
 |
For that size, you would need at least an ET of 45.
I had an ET40 on 18x8 wheels. Now i have the same thing with 17x8 [ET40]. In terms of rubber, you can go anything from 235-205. However for the 18" i recommend the 235-225/40ZR18 tires. I cannot comment on the ride height question since i am stock. I ran/running both sets of those without issues/rubbing. Let us know how it turns out. I suggest looking at the 'aftermarket wheel fitment guide' thread. Odds are the rims you are looking to get [spec wise] have been pulled off. Look there if anything. If all else fails, do some number crunching: The best wheel/tire/offset calculator... EVER! Best, Mike  |

Its really not worth the effort to make these fit. You "CAN" make them fit but you will need extended studs, 12mm spacers and roll the fenders and you still might rub a little bit. The widest I would recommend is like a 8" rim with a 22-40mm offset.

I'd go with 8" width to avoid rolling the fenders, and go 225 for the tires, extra safe would be 215

I have 18x8.5 on the rear with 225/40/18 and it fits just fine. No rubbing unless I hit a dip and the inside of the tire rubs up against the perch of the strut.

Zajac.. what did you have to do to get the 18x8.5's on the back? I got factory takeoffs from an 07 IS 350 and the fit is fine in front but not going to work in the back.

Hmmm. Its the offset that is killing you at this point. Since they are staggered and being a RWD car it will have a 'lower' offset. I suggest you do a quick search i recall someone made a thread or two with this question and instruction on haw to get them to fit. Again i do not remember.

Ok thanks guys.. I just tried it on to see look at the fitment. I only put on the rear left. Let me know what you think.
