1998 ES300 Cabin Air Filter

So I followed the DIY to replace the cabin air filter...
I pulled the rug back...
I removed the door to the filter...
I pulled out 1 filter (the one that bends in half)...
and i started to look for the nob of the other filter,
after endless searching I came out empty handed...

I just called the lexus dealer and they told me
1998 es300 only bring 1 filter (he quoted me 34.95)

is this right?

mrchacon Jun 23, 2009 08:05 AM

Just to double check i called a different lexus dealer and they told me the same thing.. the quoted me different ($49.15 for the same filter) lol....

so whats the deal? 1 filter or 2?

mrchacon Jun 23, 2009 08:13 AM

since im bored i went ahead and called ANOTHER lexus dealer.. they told me the same thing about only being 1 filter in there and this one quoted me $58.75! lmao

hahahah

3 out of 3 said 1 filter... whats the verdict?

mrchacon - lucky for you, you found a filter in yours.

i pulled the access door for my cabin filter on my 98es300 and found none. :uh:

im thinking i might try a wix cabin filter

Check the DIY for the filter replacement and you will see that the AC cabin filter has two parts. They both fold for insertion and they stack on top of one another. i suspect that if you only found one the person that changed the filters did not do a complete job.

afang - ive search top and buttom... ive called various dealers and they've all told me that car only holds 1 filter...

i need someone to clarify this 100%...

afang Jun 23, 2009 12:40 PM

Maybe it's a matter of definition. My car is a 98. The filter I installed came in two parts. Since there was no filter in the car before I started I had nothing to compare . Maybe you need to see what the filter looks like that the dealer calls one filter.

mrchacon Jun 23, 2009 12:48 PM

they described it to me as a one peice filter that folds in half...

GS4_Fiend Jun 23, 2009 01:42 PM

According to ALLDATA, it only have 1 filter.

mrchacon Jun 23, 2009 01:43 PM

GS4 - so where is the DIY gettin 2 filters from? confusin!

afang Jun 23, 2009 01:57 PM

I find this all very interesting. The two filters comes from the DIY. I followed it and purchased a two filter WIX set (PN WIX 24895) from Rock Auto for $18.75. The housing supports the two filters. Does anyone have a schematic of the AC airflow?

mrchacon Jun 23, 2009 03:56 PM

ok.... so i went to autozone after work to buy some brake fluid... and I figured i asked about the cabin air filter and they looked it up and it pulled up 2 filters.. wtttf!? how does the lexus tell me theres only 1 filter but autozone is tellin me there is 2 filters?

lmao... this is weird!

mrchacon Jun 23, 2009 04:10 PM

mrchacon Jun 23, 2009 04:28 PM

WIX Part # 24895

DENSO Part # 4531002 {FILTER-CABIN AIR-CHARCOAL**
Up to 6/2001 (88880-33040)

DENSO Part # 4531004 {FILTER-CABIN AIR-PARTICULATE**
Up to 6/2001 (88880-33040)

afang Jun 23, 2009 07:03 PM

mrchacon, The filters I purchased were not ordorized. And to tell the truth I could not tell any difference after installing them. It took me awhile to get them inserted. Not that it's difficult but just awkward. Price drove me to get the Wix filter. Check your part numbers.
