Great writeup, and great timing, PG!!
I have a belt that is a little bit squeaky and needs tightening or replacing. Now I know just how to get to it.

this diy is kinda low on info. I think I would add how to tension the belts, including the 'sterring' belt. lol :-)

Steering pump belt - big crow bar! I just changed both belts on my '01 and didn't have to go through all this! Pretty straight forward. At least I don't have those crappy tensioners they want to put on the new cars - my buddy tried to change the belt on his daughter's Highlander, and had to take it to a mech - even HE had to use a 4 ft. cheater bar to get the darn thing to let go!

I used a foot long flat head screw driver to tension the power steering belt.

Thats how I do it. I try not reaf on the oil pan too much when doing that. Just recheck the tension after the belts get broken in; they may need to be re-adjusted again. Nice write up though. This is a similar procedure for all 1mz's, 5s-fe Gen 3 & 4 Camrys and (I think) 3mz's. Parker Gen what happened to your washer jug?

the more complicated thing is the alternator belt

i like the tensioners on cars where you loosen a tensinoer pulley nut and then turn a screw that pushed the tensioner pulley.
which is the standard on the mazdas and nissans of the 90s.

parker gen, check your ps belt, I had a 320 'prev owner put on' and the correct is 315. my tension was all the way to the end, like yours ,with the 320.

I like those too; but they break really easy if youre not careful. My favorite Toyota belts are the newer 2az Camrys and 1zz Corollas. One belt and an automatic tensioner. Pays .7 at my shop and takes about a minute. Oh hot dam this is my jam.

I mean the pulley nut gets stuck and snaps off the bolt. Maybe its a New England thing.
