Questions-130amp Highlander Alternator Installed!!

Finally, Something else done!! as most 2nd Gen ES owners know, the highlander alternator is a plug and play part, i did notice a difference however. The spindle on the highlander alternator is slightly smaller giving this alternator more amps at Idle. of course the spindles from both alternators are interchangable, i just chose to stay with the smaller one.

I searched threads on the wiring upgrade, but was still left with Q's!

Wire Upgrade- I went to 2 ga wiring for the battery ground and engine ground, is there another ground i'm missing for the BIG THREE?

Question- I want to beef up the alternator wiring. Do i need Power and Ground? or just power with an inline fuse? Where to attach Power/Ground on alternator? where to ground?

Little by little this baby is coming together-thanks for your help-

To answer your question, the BIG 3 consists of Battery ground to Engine, Battery ground to Chasis, and Battery positive to Alternator.

You shouldn't have to ground the alt. as its grounded attached to the engine which is grounded to the battery.

I have 1/0 wire for my BIG 3 upgrade and didn't use an inline fuse from the alt. to battery. No one really does for that matter. But if you feel better having one - go ahead as it won't hurt anything, just make sure your ANL fuse is the correct rating.

Thanks for the response, so if i understand right, all i have to do is run my upgraded power wire to the battery, check my ANL fuse, and i'm set! No need to upgrade the ground wire from alternator? (have no idea where it is anyhow) I already upgraded the chassis and engine grounds.

Just clarifying, thanks.

Just to make sure you understood what ivory98es3 said, there is no ground wire from the alternator. The alternator is grounded through its metal case to the engine.

bob2200 thanks for the clarification, 2 ga power wire going in tomorrow.

Fusable link recommended?

the big three is alt. to battery positive, battery neg. to chasis, engine block to chasis. it should be done in 1/0 gauge wire, ( 4 gauge min. ) and you can put a fuse between the Alt. and battery, its not needed though.
