How To Determine Check Engine Lights Codes?

Ever since I put the new motor in my 95, the check engine light has been on. I was wondering how to check to see what was causing it. Its not an OBD2, so I can't plug in my buddy's scan tool. I know on all my hondas the ECU had a light or I would jump 2 wires and the check engine light would flash the number code. How do I check on my Lex? This is my first time owning a Lexus, so I don't know the ins and outs of it yet.

Search "OBD 1 Engine Light Codes". Then you'll see my thread full of codes, and how to check them.

Im pretty sure the 95 IS OBD 2 compliant. You might not be able to pull flash codes. Hook an OBD 2 scanner up to it. The 1mz-fe is the worlds first OBD 2 engine by the way. It just wasnt mandated in the US until 96.

92es5sp, unless when he/she swapped the ecu [with the engine in the engine swap] to the previous one

I have a '94 ES and I went to Autozone and they let you "borrow" the scanner for free. I didn't think it would work with mine but it did just fine. Just get the codes and then search here for what they are and how to fix (or post with the codes and one of the many gurus here will help....after chiding you for not using the search tool :D)

That's how I figured out I needed to replace my O2 sensors!
