In this forum, I recently described my problem with a cylinder misfire caused by a bad igniter. I replaced the igniter and everything is fine.

But when I mentioned this to a friend of mine, he mentioned that the cause of the igniter failure may very well be the spark plug gap getting too big. And that I may just be inviting another failure in the same cyliner (or others) if I don't check the plug (or replace it). Trouble is - getting to cylinder 3 is a #($&)(*$.

The spark plug in one of the cylinders is a NGK IFR6A11.

The parts catalogs show that the right plug should be a IFR6T11 ?? could that be an issue - what's the difference?

My ES300 (2000) has 71,000 miles on it. The plugs are rated for 120,000 (Iridium?), so I assumed they would be fine.

Anyone experience ignition coil problems because of spark plug gaps?

Hard to tell sometimes what ultimately killed a coil in the end. Happened 2 years ago to me and that was after I was cleaning the throttle body.

Yeah, coil 3 (center rear), quite a pain. I have done an instructional for my RX300, and since the 1MZFE is similar, you may be able to use this, though the throttle body removal instructions (optional for me) would be slightly different given that difference between the ES and the RX.
