Default Merry Xmas - Broken Lock Lug...HELP!!

I'm sure this has happened to someone else on here, just wondering what to do or where to get it fixed...

I was changing out my summer wheels and tires for my winter set and on my last wheel the lug nuts were on super tight. I just had a puncture fixed on the same tire. I'll also assume the shop that fixed the tire will claim no responsibility on the torquing of said wheel. Either way when i was turning the wrench, the Key (male end) tore right through the lug on the wheel, sheered off a good portion making the lug nut unremovable (to me anyway). They are the cars oem lugs.

Any idea how you'd remove something like that, or how the shops would do it. I'm so po'd right now about it all. I'm wondering if this is a really expensive thing to fix or something not so bad. I'd love to have some info to ease my mind as i go into the shop for a visit tomorrow morning. Should i go to a tire shop? or dealer? many thx.

If you go to any compentent shop, more than likely one of the techs will have a special socket that is hammered onto the broken nut and and loosened with a 1/2 breaker bar. You dont have to go to the dealer. Yea the lug was probably smoked on with an impact gun to the tune of about 200 ft/lbs.

As said in previous post, Just find an old socket that is slightly smaller than the lug, Then Hammer that son of a biotch on the lug. Then grab a long breaker bar and crack it loose.

I know my post may be a little late for you. Sears sells a set of bolt extractors that can take a lugnut off. It come in a 3 sizes. FYI

My lock lug got CUT off I don't know if I stripped the teeth, or if its just too worn down.
Lucky for me, my family's mechanic removed it free of charge.

I ended up going to a couple shops, most of which looked at me like this had never happened before Took it to one shop where the mechanic hammered on a oversized socket and wrenched it off. I bought the guys donuts and coffee and they took care of the invoice. Then i went to the dealer for a new lock nut set $40. I did see the extractors, some were quite expensive for a one time use item, but definitely handy to have.
