Strange noise from AC
 

Does anybody hear a noise like this??? its kinda like a whistle but it also sounds liquid almost like if your filling up a bottle with water the pitch changes the closer to full it gets... My 93 ES has made this noise since I bought it... The AC works great ... It seems to happen as the AC compressor cycles on and off... I hear it coming from the dash area... I probably won't do anything about it as it still works but if somthing does go wrong I might fix it then...

i think i know what youre talking about. its a noise that sounds like from the inside or something. but sorry i dont know what it is either. doesnt bother me too much.

Weird. I hear a slight whistling noise with rpm changes. But im not worried about it. Maybe evaporator? (liquid sound)

Yeah it really dont bother me either... I guess I'm running out of stuff to complain about lol, and thats a good thing!!!

yeah i hear it a lot with rapid rpm gain or loss...but again doesn't bother me too much

I hear the same noise from my is300. No idea what that is. happens only when first 10-15 seconds after engine started.

It's definatly a hard noise to explain... I guess if you whistle slowly starting at a low pitch and gradually to a higher pitch that is what it sounds like exept it does it a few times in a row in a bubble like fashion as the ac compressor kicks on...

it is hard to explain but i guess a whistle is the best description. anyways i here it a lot when the ac is first turned on and then just randomly every 10-15 minutes after that. for me it has nothing to do with rpm's or anything like that bc it seems like i here it more when idling that when accelerating. anyways my engine runs fine with it on and the ac is nice and cold so im not worried.

Sorry for the 2 year old bump, but my mother was complaining about a very similar sound that just started within the last week.

It sounds almost identical to what the OP and others have had......almost like a whistle, or a "whoop" noise, with varying sound volume. We were able to figure out that it does it about 1 second after the A/C compressor kicks in, which seems right on target with the OP as well.

So, does anyone know anything new? Her car is an 04 ES, and I plan on taking it in to the dealer in the next day or two (extended warranty), so anything more I can tell them is highly appreciated.

Just an update: dealer said it was low refrigerant charge that was causing the noise.
