Default Not in gear. clutch issues or????

sometimes when i put my 96' ES into DRIVE mode and hit the gas, the engine just revs and acts like its in neutral. after a second or two of blank rev, the car jerks and starts to move normally. this only appears to happens when the car is warming up. it doesnt appear to have any problems when the car is moving or when its warm. any one have experience with this?? maybe clutch
thanks

Cool

sounds like the fluid istoo low start by adding a quart. then run it around till it's hot, park it on level ground. while it's still idling, check the tranny fluid. it should be to the tip top hot mark.

Cool

if you do it alot, yes it's no different than slipping the clutch alot with a manual. it wont burn it out immediatey aslong as it can hold gear once engaged, but the wear is greatly accellerated in the process.
meaning it's just gunna last that much less longer.

in that case then i'd go to walmart, buy 2 1 gallon jugs of Dexron-III Super-Tech.
Do a pan drain, refill it. drive around the block. Do another pan drain, refill it, drive around the block then do the parking & level checking.

when the fluid is fresh, filled appropriately & it still slips while it's in gear. then it's time to grab a new tranny lol used A/T are scarey, but i think a540-e's and a541-e's (ou're 541) are worth about $150-350 used. Toyota made like a gazillion of them. 87-98. Im pretty sure you can use 94-98.

I doubt you're that far along, but you know just in case.
