eliminate a rub
 

someone grazed the corner of my rear bumper in a parking lot. it's like a rub, not a dent. originally, it was like a black smear but I went and tried rubbing compound to buff it out and the red fromt the rubbin compound got into the grooves and stuck. i've tried pressure washing, etc and cannot get the red out. kind of looks like a bar-code...
any ideas on removing the rub and the red?

You may have to have it wet sanded out of there. Sound like the rub went a little deeper than you thought since the compound caught in the grooves of the rub. Note, if you can feel the grooves with your fingernail and it is still not perfectly smooth, bodywork.... possibly wet sand minimun and maybe repaint of area. Just how bad is the scrape. In all actuallity, you may have to have professionally buffed out, or wet sanded and then buffed out , or repainted.
Really depends on severity of the rub and how deep it impacted on bumper. I have to do the same thing to my LS. Haven't bothered with it though as I plan on changing the front and rear bumpers with new body kit. Good luck

Try rubbing some "Goof-Off" on the black smear and wax it right away.

Have to be very, very careful with that stuff, I used it once on a previous car that had the same problem and it chemically bonded with the paint and things went down hill from there. Goof Off is a very, very strong remover and will possible remove more than you bargain for.

Well I actually used the Goo Gone application spray when I removed the rear 'LEXUS' emblem and its sticky adhesive from my '01 ES. Goo Gone worked terrific with no problems, and it's specially made for removing sticky stuff from a body panel of a car. No harm to the clearcoat or anything, it's something worth looking into. You can find this spray at any supermarket, Walmart, Target, etc.

Trukn1 is right. That stuff acts really funny when u get to rubbin hard. I guess its the heat thats created from the friction when u rub.
