You probably did not carefully clean those edges around the gaskets. And I did not see you put any seal packing on the cylinder heads ( 6 places each head ) also. It's a pain to clean those edges, but you got clean it throughly before you put new gaskets and put the cover back on the heads. Another possibility is that the leaking is from the head gaskets down there instead of the cover gaskets you replaced already.

I just did my job similar to yours, but I used like 10 bottles of carbon cleaner for cleanning those related parts.

Where does everyone get 59 in/lb spec from? Factory service manual calls for 69 in/lb for valve cover bolts

9 years too late. The OP did say about 5 ft-lbs which may be closer to 6 ft-lbs. Either way its best to use a torque wrench that is calibrated for inch/ pounds for a more accurate reading.

How is it too late??? Maybe I'm not supposed to do maintenance on my car since its been so long since op posted this? I did watch video and read this thread before start. However I compare everything with shop repair manual, mostly looking up torque specs. I just had a simple question, who came up with 59 in/lb. I got the job done and everything's fine, just wanted to clarify this in case someone looks this up in the future.
