Default Into the middle console beyond

I was taking apart my center console, the part where the gear selector is. I wanted to repaint the orange thing that shows what gear it is in and repaint the P.R.N.D.2.1. area to give it a different color and change the bulb to a red l.e.d. or something. the problem I was having is trying to disconnect the o/d button from the selector **** so that I can take out the plastic panel that shows what gear you have in. Since some of the nuts and tools ended up slipping down the crevices i had to take the whole middle thingy off. I noticed a computer int he very back of the the compartment, where the rear ash tray would be, Would someone tell me what it was, it looked like the ecu, but i though that would be in the dash. also how do you take the selector off? I will post pics of my find if I have the time, right now I am trying to relocate the fog-light swtich into the slot where the seat heater was by doing the conversion that was found on the foglight anytime thread. I bought a switch with an led in it that would slide into the slot, so I'll probably post pics when I get the whole thing done.- thanks

I also rebuilt the ashtray and cupholders in hopes of better operation. The light htat was for the ashtray wasa burnt out so I replaced it. I never knew that there was one.bthe bulb is 2723 (w2.3W) and the old bulb had a green cover that went over it so make sure to keep it when you replace it. I just can't figure out why my ashtray plug isn't working, phoeey

Well I changed my gear selector light. I was hoping to find a way to take the gear shifter **** off so that I can change the PRND21 around to let more lgiht through. It would also be nice to put a Lexus symbol inbetween the space of Park and Reverse so that it will let the blue light shine through.

Help please!!?

Also I thought I would add to the cigarette lighter problem, I found this problem in my uncles 96 es, and my 99 es, for some reason the cig lighter in the ashtray always breaks, like for example when I pull my radar detector cord out of it, the whole damn thing comes with it. I guess they just dident care about the design of it when making the car. Neways I had to take apart my uncles and let me tell u it sucked becuase it is part of the whole ashtray assembly and it was a real headache to get to without messing up the ashtray. but what I found is that it unscrews and becomes loose, thus it pulling out everytime, and the ground had come loose, my suggestion would be to solder the connections and maybe use some hot glue underneath to keep the cig lighter where it should be, I am going to be taking mine apart soon and doing this, I'll post it with detailed picture when I do....

Cool

I've always found that the majority of the time, the cig lighter melts it's wiring before the fuse can blow. It's a cigarrett lighter. Not a 12v power port...
Check the wiring for it.

Cool beans pap cgts! Sorry I missed this 2 weeks ago!

The resistor is a 470 ohm with 1/2 watt 5% tolerance. And it was one of the brightest blue LED's carried at radioshack. Just get the brightest and find the resistor that will match to the LED's best performance, there are resistance calculators on the net. That is the most I remember. The prongs that came on the LED and resistor is what I used to shove it in the hole where the light is. And it hasn't fallen out. I wanted to find out how to take the shifter off because I wanted to redo the template of the shifter and add a Lexus symbol between Park and Reverse or something.
