Default Suspension

I'm thinking of buying my wife a new car and keeping her old ES for myself. That would mean mods would be a'comin. The car rubs in the rear over bumps with people in the back seat with the 17's that are on it now. I don't usually ride people in my cars but you never know. My question is, is there a suspension set up out there for ES's? I prefer coilovers but would buy springs if that's the only thing available. Car is a 99 ES and I'd put no more than 18's on it.

18's would be perfect for the es with a nice drop

here is a link to a coilover option for your Es. https://www.clublexus.com/forums/sho...ghlight=ksport

hope to see it modded soon

Cool

D2 are the best coilovers out. There are only like 2-3 more makers for ES / Camry. There are tons of ES / Camry springs & struts.

Stick with the reliable spring/strut combo. There is no Coilover system for the Camry/Solara/ES chassis that is comfort-worthy or reliable IMHO. Save yourself the trouble and get a good set of eibach/tokico, H&R or etc combination.

Cool

LoL! I'm the opposite. Skip the eb's. They're not really a noticeable drop & don't handle much better than new OEM springs.

d2's are the most popular coilovers for the entire Camry platform. They've gotteng reat reviews...

I don't know about eiabach or H&R springs, but the tanabe df210 springs on my 2000ES close up the gap very nicely. The front has a 1 to 1 and half finger gap and the rear has about a finger gap. I have kyb gr-2 struts to go with it. IMHO, go with either JIC coilvers for the ES, or go with the Tein SS setup for the solara since you plan on upgrading to 18's. Stay away from the smaller companies...they may have more features on their coilovers and the price tag might be more appealing, but nothing beats a company that has a good reputation.

yeah the newer body styles might not have such an issue. but the 92-00 seem to always have that front gap. i chatted with juan before he parted out his es and he still wasnt able to get that gap mismatch to go away completely.

but hey i guess go with what you are comfortable with. the ksports work really well for me so im happy with the investment. just do independant research and check out reviews for different brands. I was not happy at all with all the reviews for d2. but hey to each their own. best of luck

Cool

McElligott did a good job with his gap. But the best I remember he cheated to do it LoL! EB's in the back to keep them higher, and Intrax on front for a big drop.

Good luck finding a pic with his 18's & snow tires that show it off isntead of those 25" slicks up front! hahahahahahaha

ahhhh gotta love it!

Are the d2's comfort spec co's? I have Tein CS on the SC because I prefer comfort with my performance. I'll want even more comfort with the ES.

I'd say stick with the Spring/Strut combo, if your looking for more comfort then.

The d2's I have are 7kg f and 5 kg r which was the recommended spring rate for the Camry chassis but they are way too bouncy. I couldn't even drive in my area especially on side streets that had extensive pothole repairs, my car kept on popping everywhere it was quick embarrassing. I had my d2's on for like 2 weeks and could stand it but I am thinking of putting them on because my stock suspension needs replacing real bad.

I'm still waiting on d2 to see if they will send me replacement shocks, but I don't think that will happen. I’m just going to put them back on to motivate me to get a new suspension. I think I will go with the Tein ss spring for the solara and KYB struts, I love the way Hoebags ES stands looks plus I don't want a harsher ride that Tokico provides.

My 2 pesos.
