Default 96 or 98

If you had you're choice of a 96 w/80k miles for 8000.00 or a 98 with w/112K for 7400.00, which would you choose. Lets assume that the 96 is in slightly better shape but pretty much the same. Which one would you go for and why?

I am asking cause I have this delima right now.

Do you get any service history with either vehicle? Both are high milage-aged...enough to have it gone over by a trusted mechanic. Complete front end steering checks, suspension checks, bushings on all four corners. Brake rotor and pad condiction. Are there ANY oil or fluid leaks? Do the fluids look fresh? How is the rubber on the bushings and axle drive shaft boots? A Carfax report might be good to determine if there is an insurance accident record? Insure this it is not a flood auto, since the unload has started in various states.
If there is a rush to make a decision, then pass on both of them .... Either is an investment !

Well the mileage on the 96 is actually below normal but the 98 is above and both have full service records and carfax checks them out with no problems showing. I guess I am just wondering what others would choose of these 2 as a preference.

Cool

That amount of mileage, and mileage difference isn't crap. Get the maintenece history of the cars from the owners & call Toyota/Lexus dealers also.

96 looks better, 98 is newer/better interior & a hair slower.
Doesn't matter 2 me lol!

Default Good Advice

Pheonix has good advise. Call Toyota/Lexus and get service histories. Get them checked out by an qualified Mechanic. It might cost you a few hundred dollars, but it will save you thousands down the road it either car needs major work. It will aslo give you peace of mind.

Picked up the 96 and drove it home lastnight. Ran awesome cruising at 80. The remote key isn't working so I think I will try a new battery and see if that fixes it.
