HID Light Question
 

I have the HID headlights in my 2005 ES 330 and they are really bright. :) My driving lights - the ones in the front spolier - are regular non-HID lights. What bulbs can I replace them with that will make the light brighter...more like the HIDs? I don't want to upgrade the harness or change anything other then the bulbs. Is there a way to do it?

No biggie...I'm WAY more then satisfied with my 330. I was just wondering if I could do it easily. Lexus designed it that way for a reason :D :)

You can upgrade to PIAA bright white bulbs. THere are others too. I'd stick to a name brand. The only thing is the bright white bulbs burn more voltage and sometimes, burn through the harness, since it was not built to take more wattage.

i wouldn't stick anything in the fog lights except for yellow low wattage bulbs or an HID kit with wiring harness.BTW the bulbs are 9006

Like the others have mentioned, you have a slew of choices for fog light bulb replacement, but I strongly suggest 05ES330's recommendation of the yellow bulbs. These will obviously emit a yellow output, and the yellow light cuts through foggy conditions much better than any other light. You may also notice that the yellow fogs are OEM on the Lexus GS and IS sedans.

Just take a look at the ES in 05ES330's signature, and you'll see how bright his fogs are :)

hahah thanks, that was the first thing i had to do, was to get the yellowest fog light i could find. i found that having "blue/white, hid light" crap does not work very well in the rain or fog. it also colors in the road a lil better, it may not look "cool" to some people. when i had HID's in my accord and no fog lights at all, it was bright, but it didn't reflect the road the way i wanted it to.

PIAA ion crystals are quite yellow. I have the H3 version in my ES.

I got a set of Sylvania 9006 Silver Star lights and installed them. They give of a very white and bright light. They look good with the HIDS.

Thanks for the input. I even changed out the headlights and fog lights on my wife's Tahoe to those Silverstars.

I got some silverstars too.. they look alright but they don't look as good as aftermarket blue bulbs. (when illuminated)

As far as aftermarket light bulbs, Silverstars are meant to give the most efficient light output, and rated to be better than other no-name brand, heavily coated bulbs. I currently have Silverstars as the low beams in my '01 ES, and they rock (at least for the time being until I can get my hands on a set of OEM HID headlamp assy) :D

Silverstars are as bright as you're gonna get halogen. You could always try converting some HIR's. A couple of Camry guy's have done it to earlier cars & it seems to work.

AFA color wise, you'll never find a great match for HID's, even if they're in the low 4000k range & the non-HID's are also. Now some of the LED bulbs do a good job, but LED's are not bright. (Tho you could DIY with some of the newer hella bright Luxeon Star bulbs. They rock!)

H3 is the bulb type for the fog lights in the '02-'04 ES, as well as for all ES in the prior years. The 2005 ES (yours) is when Lexus made the switch to the 9006 bulb type for the fog lights.

IMO Lexus should've thought about implementing the 9006 bulb for the fogs in the ES a long time ago since those bulbs are a lot easier to remove/install than the H3. H3 is such a PITA :thumbdn:
