First of all, thanks for the very helpful DIY....But I need some assistance since now after changing the cabin air filter my security beep does not work. I think it may have to do with the electrical cable that was pulled. Either way, everything was replaced correctly in the right order. Does anyone have any idea what happened? My key Fob still locks all doors, opens the trunk, etc...and the headlights blink, but now my beloved beep is gone...Thanks for helping

Actually, just found this link and will try it out now...maybe I bumped this ****?

Success! Clean and fresh cabin air and now a loud beep! Woot!

Great tutorial, no cabin filter was installed on my 97 ES. It was a pain to install a new one.

I just installed one in my 92. Beck/Arnley 042-2107 w/activated charcoal. Quality seemed good but it was pain to install due to loose fit. The upper filter wouldn't stay in place to allow the lower to slide in. In the end I had to use a bit of duct tape on the tab to hold it up. There was lots of swearing and my ribs are bruised.

Question Who's stealing these damn filters!!

Anyway, I just wanted to add some info on the filter itself....I ordered both of these cause I didn't know what was what. One is a deodorizing filter (dark) and one is simply a filter (white). I installed the deodorizing filter and it doesn't smell at all in there!

88880-33020- FILTER SUB-ASSY, CLEAN AIR => w/deodorizer ~$45
88880-33040- FILTER SUB-ASSY, CLEAN AIR => ~$35

BTW - I had a few pics on this DIY too but your pics are much better than mine, good job .
I figured with 254K miles on my 97 this filter would be black as coal. Well, it probably would be if it was there. Just found a few dried leaves. Ordered #CAF7783 from Auto Zone for $26.99.

Took me 5 mins to pull the old and put in the new on my '00 ES300. The hardest part was moving the floor mat and sliding the carpet out from under the gas pedal and then putting it back. I didn't even have to unplug the one plug that was shown in the tutorial. My car did have a filter installed and it was dirty but not overly so. We have put 35k on the car since we got it in '07 and I hadn't changed it since then. Not sure if the original owner had it changed out regularly.

Hi Miltonlin

THANK YOU very much for taking the trouble of posting the pics for changing the cabin filter. I looked on the web to get some direction for changing the filter but could not find one. I plan to try changing the filter in my ES 300 1998. Hope to succeed.

Once again THANK YOU

Just in case everyone wonders why they don't have a filter... even though we all have the space for one it didn't become optional until 2000. If they're was one in an older ES than it was a conscientious owner or dealer who added it.

I just did mine and I scooped out a good amount of wet rotten leaf parts though I keep the exterior vents clean. Took a shop vac, rag, lysol and my gf's small hands to fix lol. Explained the moldy smell...

Always a good idea to check for various part equivelents in TOYOTA CAMRY. Example that worked for my wife's ES300, front fender well splash liners/splash shields. Same part, different price.
