Default wrong power steering fluid

Just something that has haunted me all my life as a Mechanic. It seems that almost every Lexus or Toyota that I have ever test drove, bought for myself or worked on for a friend has had plain off the shelf power steering fluid in the power steering reservoir when on the cap and in the manual it clearly said use Dextron II or III. And let me tell you I have had to replace so many rack and pinion assembly's because of that simple fact. So please use the correct fluid in the system.

Default Trans wont move in drive, speed sensor dtc also?

Have a 96 ES300. Trans works fine in reverse but will not move in D or L unless you redline the car. The car also spit out P0500 for vehicle speed sensor. I added a little fluid and left dipstick out and tried moving the car and it started smoking out of the filler tube. Car has 160k. Not sure if I can replace the sensor? Maybe rebuild if clutches are gone? Greatly appreciate any input.

sounds like a relay in your engine compartment.... did you check the fuse by the engine bay...also under the battery there is a eletric plug that tends to come lose check that

You could try a wreckers or pick a part style wreckers....

I quite often see on ebay various kinds of Toyota / Lexus (and other makers) clips, special screws, caps etc - all the various bits of trim & trim finishing etc,,,,

You could possibly try your local Lexus / Toyota dealer they might be able to supply them, likely at some cost!!
