hole in firewall
 

where is the hole in the firewall on the ES300? im trying to wire some electronics to the battery, but i can't find the wire hole in the firewall.

model year '96

you have to drill through

no you dont, there is a hole above your pedals where the steering column goes through... that rubber seal, should slip right through there

3 options:

1) Drill a hole
2) Slit the steering colum gromet
3) Go where the OEM stuff goes


Just use #3, it's easy...

That's where you're going.

Jack up the car & take off the drivers wheel. Then take out the plastic gaurd that goes around the wheel well. Now you can see how the OEM cables are just passed into the wheel well & then you'll see the gromet they use to get inside. Slit that gromet open *carefully* so you can pass your cable through. Drop your cable through the hole I showed behind & above the driver's wheel well & then through the gromet.

I suggest putting a bit of silicone there when you finish up & pass the last inch or so through the gromet.



Replace everything & you're good to go!

Excuse any oil & grim found in the picture. When I took my new girl buddy on a 700 mile round trip to see Saliva/Kiss/Aerosmith, the oil cap decided to blow itself out of the engine on the way back... I guess it didn't like the fact that when I wasn't driving 95-115 for five hours on end, then she was doing over 85. Hah!

i never drilled anything, had 3 8 guage cables going through there..... maybe just because mine was a 94

I had to slit it because I was running two 4 gauge wires through it. The first 4 gauge only went through with great effort.

I had to run my 1/0 guage under the car. Strapped to the fuel lines no less.

I went through right here. (see pics) This is on a 92 es300. There's a long shot so you can see where in the engine bay it is and a close up. You need to remove those 2 screws and pull the whole rubber seal off to do it. Once you do, feed the wire DOWN. Then if you go on the floor on the passenger side, there's one panel under the dash that just pops right off. With a flashlight and lying on your back like a circus contortionist, you should be able to see your wire.

.... I don't know how to add pics to this thing so I just threw them up on my website. Here's a couple pics I took while installing an amp and sub today. It's not that hard. Most things just pop right off. The hardest part is getting the center airvent out:
