Wild Chase in New Jersey
(Newark-WABC, December 3, 2003) — A frantic chase in New Jersey ends with gunfire and arrests. Newscopter-7 was overhead when it happened.

What we know for sure right now is that just past 4:00pm, officers from the Essex County Anti-Crime Parternship were involved in a shooting in Newark at the corners of Avon and South 15th Street.

Authorities were chasing three people who may be wanted for burglary. The chase ended in a multi-vehicle accident. One of the three individuals being chased was shot. That person was taken to University Hospital in Newark and we're told that person is expected to be okay. Two other suspects were taken away in police cruisers.

One woman says she saw it all from her window. She says police jumped out of their vehicles and started shooting.

There's no word what prompted the chase to begin with.

The scene along Avon Avenue included a debris field from an accident that was part of the chase. Several cars blocked side roads, and police could be seen standing over the suspects.
