Power braking in an automatic car is when you are ready to "launch" your car. The way you do it is you:
1. Hold the foot brake to the ground
2. Lightly press the gas, untill you can feel the car wanting to move.
3. When the light turns green, or whatever, release brake, step on gas
This power brake gives you a better launch, similar to a manual car, but just not as high in the RPM's, with out a torque converter.
Hope that clears up your question a little.

The SC300 a pig? What you think is subjective. However, I'd pick an SC300 over a Prelude or GS-T anyday. The SC is ALOT quieter and smoother than both those other cars combined. In a Lexus, we look to a luxo GT. If I wanted speed, I would've picked up a 300ZX TT or RX-7 R1.
After all, our cars weigh over 2 tons with the driver.

ok
My best in an automatic 96 SC300 was a 15.8 on Kumo 17' tires
With some Momo GT2 kinda heavy
But rest of car was stock
This was done at Richmond Track in summer
I used to have a Prelude I liked it but noooooo where near as nice as a Lex Coupe
It was faster by a few but not much
That is why I Spray Nitrous on my lex now

Nope I was clocked by a Maine State trooper at 145MPH in my Prelude and I had a few rpm left!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hondas dont have speed limiters just Rev limiters
Stock prelude gears should take the car to 155 and thats about it
But youll need a lot of room to get there
PS Please be safe hahahahah

Of coarse and SC300 is nicer than a Prelude. But it's not as fast, and this is what the thread is about. Not comfort or luxury, but speed. And in this case, the Prelude wins.
0-60 in 7.8 seconds is slow, and it's not subjective. After driving a 18-wheeler, yes, it is fast. But in general, it is not fast.
My favorite quote from Chuck Mandel in Autoweek was
"Anything that does 0-60 in 6 seconds and under is fast. Anything under 5 seconds is extremely fast."

I opened a thread a long time ago and I asked if the SC300 5-speed could outrun the SC400s 0-60 in 6.9 seconds. Not one person said it could happen. I said one place said they got it there in 6.7 seconds, and everyone said to get that time, you would have to get one hell of a launch, and even then, it might be hard.
So no, I have not driven a 5-speed. But i've asked many people about them. I even think Bean responded to my thread and said it would really be hard for this to happen.

A stock SC300 auto would reach 155mph only with an extended downhill grade or a with a 20+ mph tail wind, or some bizarre atmospheric conditions that would strongly favor high speed.
In standard conditions you'll be stuck in the 130-140mph range.
The 155 is something I'd have to see to believe.

I ran a 6.5 0-60 on a G-tech that my friend owns, that was on the Nitto Drags, it was on a flat straight road, but I don't think they are THAT accurate.. but if it was... then I guess I was under the 6.9..
