Default Random thought today... link backup camera to turn signals?

I want to make it to where the turn signals activate the backup camera on the rear view mirror. So you can see behind you when switching lanes... Anyone know how this could be done? I suppose I could figure it out but i'm hoping someone else did the thinking. lol.

I did some digging. involves three relays, a rocker switch, and 3 capacitors. if someone sold a kid i'd do it. instead i've thought of a simpler solution. going to install a simple switch to activate the camera. it'll look oem. i'll post updates.

This is a GREAT idea!!! Why was this NOT done already by the car manufacturers?

Cars do have blind spot monitoring.. Somewhat the same function. You know if there is or isn't a car there. It sounds like a cool idea, but I think this action only happens in a matter of seconds so wasn't worth having it show on the display...?

The Honda Fit has had this for years. Many other cars do too.

It's OEM on most new Hondas nowadays. I always think it's pretty neat when I ride in a friend's Honda and see the camera turn on when they use the signal. But it helps to have a big screen so you aren't squinting. I'd like to somehow incorporate a camera system and pluck a screen on top of the dashboard (OEM STYLE)

I researched our dashboards and us non-nav owners actually have a space cut out on the underside of our dashboards as the nav cars do. All you need to do is order the plastic trim and a screen. cut out the section of dash with a razor blade. There's manufacturers that make a screen it's just a lot of money. lol

This one sits too high for my liking but I hope the aftermarket comes out with a nice cheap better looking solution.

i'd prefer a larger screen for the backup camera. i dont like the mirror one.

Update. Wired switch to rear view camera to activate whenever I want. Took a little while to figure out what wires do what.

Notice I am in Park

That's awesome. So you had to cut/splice some wires to do that?

I just spliced in.

Update I tested it more, do not do this. When it turned night time, I saw my reverse light light up. Apparently I would need to split the circuit with two relays. Too much work.

It's fine anyway the screen is distracting with having a half mirror as on the CT. So I'll look into another option involving a separate screen and maybe surround view cameras. There's kits on eBay. I want my cameras!! Tesla style
