Default P0301 CEL, New CT Owner needing help

New 200h owner! I just bought a Used 2012 CT premium. Total miles: 130K, 1 owner, no accidents, clean title. $8,500. Car is really clean and well maintained. Thoughts on the deal?

I unfortunately did not test drive the car before I purchased the car but check engine light came on during my drive home. P0301 - Misfire. I spoke with the seller and he said he got a service done already. Is this a common CT problem? Should I bring it into the shop? I cleared the CEL and it hasnt come back but like to know if I should continue driving it without inspection. Thoughts?

just out of curiosity .... did you happen to sign any papers that mention "as is" when buying the car?

Take it to the third party garage that works on lexus & toyota and ask for them to scan it. If that doesn't work go to a dealership and do it.

I think he should go to a shop and tell them the code to see if they can check anything out in the engine, why not? Pay now or pay more later.

How is the car's 12volt battery? If it's weak, it will throw up codes.

if it were his 12v battery, he would more than likely throw the following cel's:

P0102 - Mass Air Flow (MAF) Circuit Low
P0113 - IAT Sensor Circuit High

Maybe so. But if the 12V battery is running low, anything can happen.

When my LX570's battery was running low (but still enough to crank up), it gave errors on the dashboard indicating the central diff locking mechanism error. Took it to Lexus DEALERSHIP and they could not find anything wrong except the battery was low and did not pass the load test. Battery was changed and all ok now.

Update on my story; turns out engine has a leaky/blown gasket. Seller offered me a 6 month bogus warranty. When I finally took the car to the shop and identified it was for sure a blown/leaky gasket, the warranty company stated they wound't cover it. The seller also stopped taking my calls. I took it to a auto shop to get a engine swap ($3K) and they found other issues with the car. Basically, the previous owner ran over something big that broke the radiator. There is evidence underneath the car where the crossmember and exhaust pipe are bent. The air compressor and fan are also squeezed tightly together which my mechanic said I should definitely fix.

I reported the seller to BBB and will take him to small claims court. I did sign paperwork for the car as is but it was advertised as in working condition and no accidents. I'm guessing the original owner fixed it for cheap, knowning it had a blown gasket and my seller purchased it via an auction. When they realized it had a leaky gasket, they sold it to me for cheap hoping that I wouldnt catch it and if I did, the warranty company would cover it.

I feel for you, man. But there's an old saying "buyer beware." And it's not just saying, it's used in defense of claims like this. They obviously reset the code and tried to unload this car on someone. I saw you posted on another thread. This wasn't carmax was it?

Look at the bright side you got a whole new lease on life for your car for 3k. 8k plus 3k, you got yourself a fairly modern Lexus for 11k. You still didn't make out too bad. Get your worth out of it and drive it to the ground.

From how I interpreted Buyer Beware is that the car may break later. Not that it is already broken. I been purchasing alot of things used to save money and until this experience, it's been good. People have been honest and trustworthly.

That is why this is so painful, I have never been taken advantage of and lost so much money. Fraud is a crime. I'm looking to take the seller to small claims court to see if justice will prevail. For the total amount I spent, I could of got a better condition CT with lower mileage and no body damage.

I forgot to comment on the condition of the car. There is a big dent on the vehicle which I originally attributed to why I was getting such a good deal. The damage is easily a $1000 body shop fee.

Pending court date in Jan. I think I have enough evidence to prove to the judge it was fraud.
