I recently bought a 2012 ct200h that does not have the OEM garage door opener. Not wanting to have a remote hanging on the visor, and wanting to avoid tapping into the electrical system, I found a fairly simple solution.

First, I purchased a 9B86BM Toyota aftermarket Garage Opener switch from aironboard.com for about $20 including shipping. It arrived within a few days. This momentary contact switch labeled as "Garage Opener" fits perfectly in one of the blank switch openings on left side of the dash.

The blank can be removed by carefully using a small screw driver or nylon tool and gently prying it out.

Next I soldered two 18g wires in parallel to the momentary contact switch on my door opener remote control. Not the best looking joints, but they felt solid.


I secured the two wires inside the garage door opener remote casing and passed them out one of the holes for the visor bracket. Next i connected the wires to the terminal on the back of the switch and inserted it through the opening in the dash and down to the firewall.


I planned to install the remote against the firewall using velcro, so I first cut the wires to length and added quick disconnect terminals. I also twisted the two wires and put them in a wire wrap. I next installed velcro on the firewall and on the back of the remote control housing. Fingers crossed the velcro will hold. If not, I will try something else easy enough to remove and change the battery when required.





Next, connect the terminal on the back of the switch and push it into the dash until it clicks.



If you are more adventurous, you can tap the switch into the interior lights circuit and the button will illuminate. I have only one garage door, but you could use multiple switches for multiple doors, presuming you have the empty slots. There are also 12v to 9v converters available for under $10 that could replace the battery in the remote.
