Default Small update on my high-mileage 2014

1. While I have said many times that I have had 0 issues, I forgot that I did have a small issue that I simply lost track of. Around 100k to 150k miles, my low tone horn started to go out, then eventually did. I ignored it because honking the horn went back to mostly normal (because the high tone was working and the low tone was dead so the sound was steady). I had my mechanic look at it again and confirmed it was dead. I am having it replaced ($75 for the part, $100 labor).

2. Ever since owning my Prius C, and my CT which replaced it, along with a rental Prius I once had for 3 weeks or so, I noticed that the computer always estimates mileage about 2 to 3 MPG over the real amount (you can check my Fuelly log to confirm). I'm not sure exactly when this started happening, but starting after 200k or so, my CT is estimating MPGs at less than 1 MPG from the real value. It's incredibly accurate now. Not sure why. Any ideas? Again, check my Fuelly log to see. I keep the estimated amount in the notes for every fill up except for one or two.

Otherwise, my car is still running extremely well. Engine interior no longer looks brand new according to my mechanic, but doesn't look anywhere close to what it should for its mileage.

And that mileage btw, is now at 242k miles.

Raidin, that's quite impressive, so many miles in such short time. Great to hear how reliable it's been, gives me optimism that the CT will not be giving me much trouble in the near future.

Keep on giving us updates, always a interesting read.

Besides having the oil changed and tires, what else routine did you do to the car? I am looking through the manual and it seems like there is nothing to do with this car, everything is sealed and supposed to last forever.

Engine and cabin air filters when they look like they need replacing.

Transmission fluid at every 60k, switched to every 100k.

Engine and inverter coolant every 50k, switched to every 100k.

Spark plugs every 120k.

That's it!

It's the same coolant, but used for cooling the electric motors inside the transmission, along with the electronic components that generate a lot of heat, as I understand it.

Thanks for the update OP. I personally plan to change the transmission fluid at the same time whenever the manual says to change the coolant (which is at 100k miles...I'm currently at 70k). Glad to see the CT running strong, but then again we already expected it due to the identical properties of the already proven Prius.

Brake pads are still good, above 70% I think in the front, and above 60% in the rear (going to get them checked again at 260k). Rotors still smooth, work well, no warping or any issues (what else would be an issue?), and never flushed the fluid as per my mechanic's suggestion. It just doesn't need it unless a significant amount of air makes it into the system. Brakes have never changed in feel since day 1, still excellent.

Congrats on the mileage! Currently I'm at 151K miles and still going strong as well. Keep up the great work and happy driving...hopefully one of these days I catch up to you...

@ Itsr

Steering feel is the same as it always had been. Both in Normal and Sport modes. Have not felt any difference other than involving tire changes.

I can post pictures if you like. What do you want to see, the mileage display? Anything else?

@ Trexus

You'll need to pull more than 110k miles a year, which is where I am now (used to be 130k a year for a while). =P
