Default 150 HP for 2016 CT ?

Car and Driver (http://blog.caranddriver.com/purport...otos-leak-out/) has reported on a rumour the new Prius - likely the source of the new CT's power train - will have 145 to 150 hp, so the 2016 CT should too. If the car doesn't weight any more (it may weigh even less), it will be somewhat faster and get better mileage. Well, I'm hopeful anyway.

Damn that thing is so ugly. I can live with the front end but the rear is just bad! Glad we bought the current gen Prius. Anything with more HP is better and Toyota can do better than that. They can launch a 1000 HP hybrid if they wanted to. I think the electric motor should be the primary driver and the gas motor as the aid or just to recharge the electric when needed, not the other way around like it is now. Stop restricting those horses!

I agree Lexus/Toyota should do better. The Audi ETron will have around 200 hp and it's a plug in hybrid as well!

I think they sell current CT and some Toyota models with current hybrid system for few years before new model, as there's plenty of manufacturing capacity for this powerline when 3rd gen Prius is phased out.

Lexus plans to launch the refreshed GS and ES, MMC LX and redesigned RX all as MY16's. I don't think the 2016 CT will get this update. More likely when 2nd generation comes possibly as a MY17 if rumors hold true.

Hey does the CT has the same engine as the old HS model? The CT is the replacement of the HS right?

Nevermind... The HS has 2.4L with 187 HP. Damn this thing hauls ***! Should've used this engine in the CT.

I test drove a brand new CT in 2013 before I bought my HS250h Premium used. I could not believe people would pay that much money for a crappy CT. It's underpower, noisy, cheap interior. The HS250H Premium has all the options like lane assist, front and back camera, nav, radar cruise, etc. for less than $23k with 30k miles. The CT that I test drove was $37k and saleman did not want to budge.

You must be talking about another vehicle. My CT has a very nice interior (that central console looks niiiiiiiiiiiiice), it's pretty silent for it's class and even if it's not super fast it reacts very well.
I don't know the HS as it was never sold here in Switzerland. But from what I understand it has the 300h powertrain? Which is nice but without regenerative braking and much worse MPG (I get 40-50 MPGs with my CT)
On top of that, even with only 136hp, the CT is a fun car to drive around town or twisty roads thanks to the rear multi link suspension.
I paid something like 15k $ for my 2011 with 70k miles on it with one year warranty, backup camera, sat nav and premium sound

Looks are subjective. Overall the plastic selection on the CT is good. Some gripes are the window/door lock switches and the plates they sit on are cheap like the ES ones. The steering wheel control bezel was really nice until the 2014 refresh where it switched from a nice brushed 'aluminium' look to cheap rough plastic like the IS bezels.

The HS actually uses the older 2.4L I4 and hybrid setup for 187hp. The ESh uses the newer 2.5L I4 hybrid (200hp) found in the Camry, Avalon and NXh (194hp). It did have regnerative braking, but the car got 35 city 34 highway and weighed roughly 3,682lbs. It did offer awesome features like a HUD and LKA that even the ES and GS didn't offer at the time, but overall it never received the love it needed. It is still sold in Japan with a nice full spindle and interior revisions such as matte bamboo trim.

CT is a bit of a dog in a straight line, but since it's more of a city/suburban dweller it does excel at mileage, utility and is engaging in the corners for spirited driving. Honed in Europe .

Yep it takes 10.3 sec to go from 0 to 62mph so it's not very fast. But compared to any other CVT I ever tried, it is VERY responsive! And IMO that's what matters in a "city car"

Part of that is the Lexus 'eCVt' is not a true CVT transmission like the Nissan one. Instead it has a dual planetary gear set, making it very robust and as you say, responsive.

Audi is a totally different deal. It's faster, but one can't forget stellar reliability of Toyota hybrid system with TSI engine and DSG gearbox.

Yes the CT is a dog in a straight line but a Boss in traffic. That's why I have my GS to feed my power hunger when needed.
