Default Trunk Bike Mount over Hitch?

Has anyone chosen a trunk bike mount over a hitch mount? I was planning on a hitch but the added lbs scared me. I'm looking to keep the mount on 5 days a week for my commute so the less lbs the better.

You are concerned about adding a 20lbs hitch? I'll take a hitch mount any day of the week vs possibly messing with paint, glass, and straps a trunk mount will have to go through. Below is what I have.

Mind you, it is also uses quick disconnect pins, so when there is no bike, there is no bike rack to steal either since it 's stored in the trunk when not in use.

edgalang, I like those Sportwing racks.

I've been using my Swagman XC2 since 2007:

Then I bought into the "more $$ = better" hype and got myself a Thule T2:

Neither the Swagman, nor T2 work well with Road bikes. The T2 messes up the alignment of the front brake caliper, and the XC2 ratcheting arms only go so far because 100psi 700x23c tires don't compress:

I just got a 4 bike Sportwing for my SUV. I love the fact that its light (like 40 lbs for a 4-bike hitch rack), and that it holds onto the wheels. I no longer have to loosen / adjust / re-tighten the whole rack every time I switch bikes (I have 3 road bikes, and 4 mountain bikes).

As to the OP, a hitch rack is superior IMO, because there is zero contact between the rack and the car. I've seen some trunk rack setups in which the rear plastic bumper cover was dented in at the points of contact.

NICE! Thank you for the confirmation. I too was struggling over bike racks, but in the end went with what I thought of the time, the most basic and lightest design. I even modified the post of the sportwing to add another hole, so when carrying only 1 bike, it is as close to the bumper as possible for a tighter fit.
