Unhappy WTCrap!!! 31.1 MPG!!!!

So I took my ct on her first all highway Houston - Dallas drive and noticed a HUGE drop in MPG. Is this normal? 80 mph and on cruise control, I averaged 31 mpg!!! Anyone else had similar experiences?

No mods except a injen intake...

Help~~

You will notice a HUGE drop in mileage in a hybrid on the highway going that fast. The electric motors only really help get the car going, but won't help keep it going. They do help a little, but at 80 mph your car is basically operating on just the gas engine.

I average 45+ mpg overall (city + freeway)... but i keep my freeway speeds around 65mph. As stated above, anything above that kills gas mileage...

going from san diego to vegas @80 mph (cruise control all the way) I avg'd 36-37 mpg

this past weekend I did 70 mph in cruise control and avg'd 44 mpg going from sd to la (the bumper to bumper la traffic earned Lot of ev mode time)

Thats about what I get too, 31mpg does seem low. I dont think I've ever avg anything less than 36mpg at any point.

Default Dang...

Thx for the replies...that does make sense that its only using the gas engine but still I felt that 31 was too low. I guess for those who's getting 36mpg at 70mph does not have an intake ?? 5-6 mpg difference between non intake and injen...hmm I'm thinking I may go back to stock.

I am driving back later today and will set cruise at 70 and see...

Thx!

Man I was thinkin...byebrid for a sec =)

Do you have your A/C or heater on? What about defrost (especially front)? I've noticed a big drop in MPG with A/C use, and going over 60-65 mph.

Yes most def ac was on. This is Texas! Driving w/o Ac is impossible=)

***Update 3/26 - 49MPG!!! Just touched down in Htown and redemption! Ac was on and almost no cruise control. Averaged 70-75 mph but keep my foot on the gas and "felt" the pedal...meaning I didn't try to go above the power line mostly. Only engaged when getting onto the freeway or passing. At the finish 49mpg. Guess I'm still learning my hybrid...what a great feeling though. Also keeping the injen I like that vroom sometimes.

so you didn't cruise and had a 70-75 mph avg speed? that's sick! i'm still learning my hybrid right now and i always challenge myself to stay below the power line. i must admit, it's challenging. any advice for a new CT driver?

leave the intake on..during the drive were there any hills u had to climb?

but def the 80 mph+ and ac on is giving you your results still better than most cars

last summer here in seattle i had the ac on and driving 70 mph and i had a sig drop from 44mpg down to 35 mpg..so expect it

Yes def hills. I figured hills would hit the power line for a sec but on the decent I would gain up to 80 mph while still in the eco section. I figured out that it all comes down to "feeling" the gas pedal and making sure it didnt go into the power section excessively.

Also I noticed that leaving the display mode on the diagram where it shows when the gas engine vs electric is engaged helped. I used to leave it on the mpg display but leaving it on the 2 diff engine diagrams gave me a better mental/foot image ~~ weird i know but it works! I now get around 48.8 overall.

Its fun to step out and challenge myself to get the most mpg. Its nice to fill up in Texas at 3.59/gal = 32 bucks and still hit 425+miles on a full tank of gas...onward:

cool:

OP, hop on the freeway, set the display gauge to "Average", hold the DISP button and watch the MPG soar

I have now had my CT200h Fsport for 2 weeks, and filled up for first time today, a lovely $37!! I came from a 2013 Jeep Rubicon that was $84 to fill and go 290 miles.

Anyway, I am still learning the hybrid on the highway also.....what's the best place to be while on the highway for speed or the gauge on left where power is............I avg 40.1 on first tank.

Thanks!
