Just adding my test run from last week...

I drove 81 miles through LA morning traffic and decided to be sure to make an effort drive sane to test a door-to-door MPG. For those in the area, this drive was from Camarillo (Ventura County) to Huntington Beach (Orange County). For those not familiar with the area, this drive has two large grades to traverse, the Conejo Grade and the Sepulveda Pass, and a wonderful dose of LA traffic.

This drive was in the middle of morning traffic down the 101 and 405. The car thinks I put up a 52.2 MPG mark. I used the electric as much as possible while sitting in traffic, but you eventually get to a point where you can no longer use the batteries.

hello all. recently bought a CT F Sport about two weeks ago. on the first fill up, i go 42mpg. very happy so far with MPG and ride. i actually switched from 2012 G37 Conv. to this car. i was only getting 15 mpg in the city! didn't matter how much i tried to switch the way i drive, still got crappy MPG. i live in SoCal. my daily drive is on the 110 fwy, from Pasadena to USC. only about 7 miles, but bumper to bumper. my wife used to do10fwy to Santa Monica, and that sucked as well. so we needed to switch.

what i noticed for me, when i am stuck in traffic, i leave it in normal mode. if i drive less then 15 mph, i switch to ECO. yesterday, i was stuck in traffic for 15 minutes for only 1 mile! switched to EV mode. used only battery. this worked for me. will continue to try different things to maximize driving.

My dashboard shows much better mileage than what I actually get. On the dashboard it shows a little over 40 mpg. But actually measuring miles and gallons used I get only 34 to 36, except when on a trip. I would not rely on the dashboard reading. I drive very smoothly, often in EV mode. I'm wondering how many measure actual usage?

I have a nice easy 60 mile round-trip commute to work everyday and I am getting right at 45mpg (reported). 24500 miles, so everything should be fully broken in. Pretty good, although my previous car (2005 Honda Insight) could get in the low 60 mpg range when it was warm. BTW, that 2 mpg delta from the computer to reality is there on all toyota hybrids. We have a 2007 Prius in addition to the CT200h and that's just something that you have to get used to.

I drive around 34 miles round trip every day to work - 50% city - 50% highway. My first fill up I averaged 44.4 mpg. (373 miles with 8.3 gallons of gas). Come to think of it, I don't see the delta as the dashboard showed around that much. I will keep an eye on it this time. Currently my dashboard is showing 46.9 and once I fill up my car this week I will know the accurate number.

OK - Back to earth. Filled up my tank today - Dashboard was showing 46.7 but based on my calculations I got 43.52 (371 miles - 8.5 gallons). In the first tank , I drove a combination of eco mode and normal. In the second tank, I mostly drove normal rarely shifting to eco mode. In any case, the delta for me here is 3 while I am sure in the first tank my delta was either totally absent or less than 1.

I just bought this car for my wife. First tank shows 43.9 mpg. I calculate the actual gas I use and it came out to 43.3 mpg.

Isn't it amazing that with a little effort you can meet/exceed the sticker number for MPG?

How many other people can say that about their cars?

I don't know about meeting/exceeding - I hate the fact that the dash MPG read out is incorrect.

Also, if I try to be gentle, I have traffic up my *** so I usually end up mashing the throttle a bit at signal lights.

I anticipate traffic times and avoid them at all costs. In case I have to drive peak hours, I never take the highway. You speed up and then brake. Travel time is same if you take internal arteries and you can keep constant speed. This tip works for ALL cars and not just hybrids. I traded in my corolla and was averaging 32mpg with corolla. I have a Scion XB which is rated at 28 highway and I can squeeze out 30 mpg easy. Check your dash. For Scion XB i get max mpg in the 45-65 range.

For CT200h, I noticed 55-60 is worse than 65 for the roads I take. As soon as I reach close to home, I shift to EV mode. Parking garage I always shift to EV mode. Don't turn on heat/AC until engine warms up a bit.

These tips are nothing specific to hybrid (except EV mode). I use them all the time. I used to get 40 mpg on highway with my 2003 civic coupe (Loved that car . Its the only car I regret trading in).

Shorter trips burn more gas than longer trips as gas engine runs to warm up. We previously had a Prius and found the same thing.

My wife was doing a 12 mile commute with the Prius and averaged 50+ mpg. Her commute changed to 3 miles and MPG dropped to 33 MPG.

All the cars I've owned, Ford, GM, Toyota and Lexus have displayed exaggerated MPG on dash by about 5%. Our CT exaggerates 2 mpg, 42 vs 40, my LS and SCs exaggerate, 1MPG. 21 vs 20.
