Default tires losing pressure

anyone here have a problem with the TPMS light going on to often?? my tires seem to always lose air pressure when the outside temperature drop... i live in vancouver so it does not get insanely cold.. i notice that this happens when the temp drops to like 3...

any ideas as to what is wrong? i've talked to the service guys and they weren't really helpful. this has happened 3 times already and the car is just about a year old.. i've had it checked and they said it was fine. should i be concerned??

Well, it depends on how much of a drop you're getting. It is normal for tire pressure to fluctuate with ambient temperature, but if it drops when it gets cold, it should go up when the tires get warmer. The system should also be initialized and pressure set when the tires are cold.

i have had mine for about 18 months. two months ago, the TPMS light came on and i filled the air in all the tires a few PSI. before that, i never touched them other than whatever the service people did at 5k and 10k.

then, a few weeks after i did the air fill, the TPMS came on again and the air pressure was down. so i was thinking maybe i have a nail (that i can't see easily) causing a slow leak. so i took it to discount tire and had them look at it and they said i had a leak in my valve stem and they replaced the kit for free. the tires on mine are still the factory set; i didn't buy it from them, although i have bought other tires in the past at discount tire.

i don't know why it occurred or what might cause that problem. it was only one tire. the other 3 have never had any problems. so maybe you have the same issue.

it's been about 6 weeks since that incident and the tire pressure seems stable now, so i think they had the right diagnosis.

thanks for the replies guys!

i'll go and have someone check to see if the valve stem is broken. i think its way too weird that the tires have lost pressure more than once over the past few months.

its not even that cold here in vancouver... i could understand if it changes from like 10 to suddenly 1 or 2 but we've been at 5 then 3.. nothing that significant..

i taked to my service rep and he wasn't helpful at all... just kept on saying that its normal and i should get used to it. this has never happened to any of my other cars both past and present and it was colder a few years ago when it was snowing in vancouver than it is now..

hopefully this gets amended and that there isn't a problem..

My wife's Honda has the same problem. The only 2 solutions the service advisor had was to set the pressures a couple of pounds higher than the numbers in the door panel and/or to switch from air to nitrogen. So far the only place locally that service tires with nitrogen is Costco and only if you buy the tires from them.
