Default 2013 ct200

Hi I have just traded my is250 for a ct200. I am wondering why when I first start up the engine revs quite highly reversing off my drive . Shouldn't it just use the battery until until I press the accelerator ?

If you start the car and the engine starts idling higher than normal, it usually means that your hybrid battery isn't fully charged and the engine is busy recharging it. This usually happens if you drove in electric mode right before you parked, so your battery never had a chance to recharge the night before.

Thank you for the reply. As this is a new car for me, and my first hybrid. I am looking at anything than may be wrong before the warranty runs out I'll check the battery state before I switch off next time to check.

I think the engine may run for a little while when cold even if the hybrid battery is at full charge. I remember reading about this on a Prius forum when I owned one, and it is to warm the engine and catalytic converter so that it meets emissions standards.

Yup. Pretty much each time you start the car, the gas engine will come on in a few seconds to warm up then shut off. When this happens, it idles normally. If it's idling high, it usually means it's doing something else, like charging the battery. Happens to me all the time.
