After I did my 5k miles oil change yesterday on CT200h, I am unable reset the oil maint message. I try from manual to google still didn't work, any helpers out there? Thanks.

You reset the ECU, right?

TuCt 11-15-12 11:19 AM

No I didn't. Do you have to reset ECU every time for oil change? How on CT? Thanks.

To reset the ECU on any car, all you have to do is disconnect the negative battery cable for a couple minutes. This will reset all of your settings you have, (memory seats ect...), and clear any codes you have at the time. If the oil light appears again than something about the oil change wasn't done correctly. If that's the case, I would strongly recommend changing service places if they can't do an oil change...than again, it's a Lexus...if your oil maintinance message does not leave after an oil change, than you will need to reset the ECU.

Able to reset the light without reset ecu. Thanks SC400.

Did you have the oil change at 5k?

The 5000 mile service does not call for oil change, just rotate tires and do visual checks. First oil change is scheduled at 10,000 mies.

That being said, the maintenance reminder for oil and filters on the CT is set for 5,000 miles.

The first 2 services, i.e. 5k and 10k service are free at Lexus dealers.

Some have opted to replace oil and filter at initial 5k service and the cost of the owner. I just had my 5k service done and dealer recommended I wait until 10k to replace oil/filter.

I had to go into maint settings and change oil, filter and rotation reminder so the car would not annoy me with the alert.

I am able to reset mine right off the screen. I did have the dealer change the oil and filter at 5k at my expense as part of 'my' normal ritutal, but will follow the 10k from here out with Mobil 1 that I provide to the dealer at the change interval.

Yes I did oil change at 5k miles this time only and will follow 10k interval.

I just had my 5k service and requested an oil change. The service guy was polite but oddly very resistant to me doing the oil change. I was persistent and they eventually agreed though they did charge me $70 for the change and used Pennzoil synth. I've always used Mobil ! and thought Lexus did too but I guess its not that big of a deal.

It'll be interesting when I go in for the 10K where they're supposed to give me the free oil change.

I'm not sold on the 10k interval, I've always done my own oil changes and suspect I'll begin doing them on this car at the 15k mark but I'm curious to what everyone else thinks about the 10k interval.

DE, I have no problem with 10k oil changes. Today's synthetics are easily able to provide that level of protection. I currently have 230,000 miles on my Land Cruiser, the last 140,000 on synthetics. I normally do an oil change between 8-10k miles. I will run it out to 12,500 if I change the filter at 6,000. The engine is still as tight as the day I bought it.

Bob259, the Toyota 0w20 synthetic oil has been considered to be as good as or better than Mobil 1 and it has a more robust additive package. It is made by Exxon/Mobil to Toyota specifications to go 10,000 miles. It is supposed to be a little thicker at high temps than Mobil 1. However both are excellent products and you cannot go wrong with either. Check out the comments at www.bobistheoilguy.com
