Unhappy San Diego traffic on weekends is :(

I know better though when a friends says "come on down for dinner!" We take the 65 mile hop in the hope traffic is moving. It wasn't and we started out at 1;30 thinking we'd get into town and wander before heading to their place. Took 2.5 hours at an near average speed of 25 MPH to cover that distance. Ugh...bright red tail lights in the day and this was the repeated scene at night near/in San Juan Capistrano area. What this amounts to is we are basically stuck in the LA/OC area within our fishbowl 5-10 mile radius. Even that can be pretty bad.

I know that exact bend coming from San Diego because I can always see the ridiculous amount of red lights.

it's been no fun, we came back from seaworld yesterday, 2 hours. tips for you, take slow lane, and go in and out of exits

also, should try to think about using 15, depends on where in SD you going

Yep, AND this is with no accidents.

I quite don't get it either.

At least on the weekends, the construction guys aren't working.

The Del Mar racetrack is open.

Interstate 15 is a good alternative depending on your destination.

This Caltrans link is great-program it to your locale using the tabs at the top:

Man... I know this feeling all too well. A year or so back in just about this same spot, freeway was on a traffic break for about 2 hours which consisted of a lot of sitting outside the car.

You should be using 'Waze' or at least Google Maps. The roads in/out of SD are always a mess during prime time. Unfortunately there are usually few alternatives. The 15 works but you'd have to going that direction.

The WAZE privacy disclosure is scary.

I had to drive to North County SD from LA this past weekend. Had planned to leave LA at 10AM Saturday, but checked traffic and saw it was awful. I checked up on it every hour and it didn't change until around 7PM. Ended up leaving at 8PM and made the hour and fifteen minute drive with no traffic. Normally the 5 backs up in San Clemente, but opens up through Pendleton and then stops in Oceanside again. This past weekend it was stopped from San Clemente all the way to the Del Mar area. Insane!

I've blasted through that with my motorcycle, legally.

70 minutes from Irvine to Downtown SD...

When i went to UCSD i would constantly be checking traffic and end up driving to the oc at 10pm to avoid any and all traffic.

That pic was taken about 9:30 that evening. CRAZY!! I've done the morning commute through Solana Beach...very painful. I don't feel there is a good time unless way off hour and even then dealing with the OC traffic is pretty bad. We used to go to SD regularly but now the drive is far worse.
