Angry I got a 4 violation ticket!

I guess it was my day to receive a traffic ticket since a long time!

I was driving on the 101 north going towards north hollywood, when I get pulled over by the 170/101north junction as where they split.

A police officer comes out with a cadet, and another officer, asks me where I'm coming from, and all the nonsense, he even tests me as if I'm drunk or on drugs.

I explained to him that I was really tired, and that me and my girlfriend had just got done with the X-Factor audition, I was excited for her passing, so I was sorry if I did anything wrong, he stated I was speeding and if I knew the speed limit here, and I apologized and told him I was following the flow of traffic, and was going 75, and that the speed limit was 65? I remember looking at my speedometer before he pulled me over, and it said 75, he stated I was going 85 on a 55 zone, I apologized once again and told him I did not believe this as the car infront of me was going a whole lot faster and yet I get pulled over? Hmmm..

He comes back, states that I am getting ticketed for speeding, for having "modified exhaust" (HKS Hi-Power), having "blue lights" (hid 6000k 35watts), and tinted windows (which came OEM from the dealer!).... I told him that my tint was OEM from the dealer, he did not believe it, I told him that I never had problems with this before and never heard of such things being a problem, I understand the speeding even though I wasnt, but thats just outrageous, he told me I had to sign the ticket or go to jail...

I guess he wanted to impress his little cadet that he was teaching, and plus its the end of the month and the highway patrol and PD love giving away tickets before their monthly quota....

I have NEVER in my life, ever got ticketed for having exhaust, having OEM tints, having HID lights.... this police officer was a total douche bag, not because he gave me a ticket, but a couple of my co-workers had the SAME problem from that SAME cop....

I will definitely fight this ticket, I also called my dealership I bought my car from, they told me my tint was OEM, and that it met the california tint requirements.... I'm pissed right now

OP, good luck with the ticket. that's pretty lame what the cop wrote you up for. A few months ago I got a ticket coming back from the casinos here in CO (previous car). i figured it was a routine stop for suspicion of a DUI. once the cop found that I was sober and didn't do anything wrong, he wrote me up for "aftermarket exhaust." He told me "having aftermarket exhausts in this state is illegal." Of course I asked him what exactly about it made it illegal? His answer, "i don't know, you'll have to take that up with the court."

For your sake I hope he didn't actually write 85 in a 55 and that he put something like 75 or so...30 over is a sizeable fine (from experience, I was supposedly doing 26 over heh) and usually disqualifies you from traffic school. Good luck, sounds like a real a** who got pulled you over. I got pulled over in my 88 supra turbo back in college for "illegal exhaust" by a cop with a cadet...they just want to show off and it sucks to be the teaching example. Luckily though, I was the one pulled over (no ticket was given after the whole ordeal believe it or not) and not my friend with the rhd 1jz 2.5R...or another friend with 1jz swap, that'd have been even less fun.

NEVER admit how fast you were driving! Now there's really no way to fight it, all the cop has to say is that you admitted you were going with the flow of traffic @ 75mph and its a wrap.

I've had a bad experience on the 101 to though being pulled over. I'm not sure it was the same cop, but it was two of them, not far from the 170 split, they pulled me over for going 80. Luckily it wasn't my modded Honda, it was a rental Mustang. Said they had been pacing me for a couple miles, which was a lie, i was in front of another car the whole time and he got in between us right before pulling me over. Anyways i was nice about it, handed over my info, no argument at all from me, took the ticket and went on with it. They questioned me a lot about where i was going, why i was driving so late, and why i had IT equipment in the back of a rental car (I was taking it all up north for an installation at the time) Seemed like they wanted a reason to get me for something else =/

But i was speeding, so i paid the fine and moved on, can't really complain cuz he was doing his job i guess. It looks like you got one that wasn't the least bit forgiving though, it's gonna be a headache clearing all those tickets up. Seems like he was really going hard on you (For whatever reason). I'm just careful now whenever i'm on the 101.

ill be honest with you, you are complaining about , things that are not legal, you dont have OEM HID equipped , tint on the front windows is what im assuming in state of CA is prohibited your exhaust isnt state compliant in noise level, i dont want to be an *** but he got you fair and square, now im not gonna say it sucks but you can fight most of it, by bringing "proof" that they are compliant , getting a original sticker saying your car has HID ,
and a hks noise compliant 50 state legal document, and get a flash meter from a camera to measure the visibility through the window =) to be fully technical about the % it is 78% visibility its as clear as a arrow head water bottle by the way =)

6000k HID's should never be a problem. That's not even blue, its white. 8000K is blue. If you get a ticket for 6000k in a car with projector headlights, the cop was really looking for things to cite you for. OP says tint is legal from dealer, and as long as its 70% visibility on the front, its legal in CA. Rear windows in CA are allowed to be as dark as driver wants them to be. I can see why a cop might cite someone for a HKS hi-power, but the rest was just unnecessary.

He put 85 on a 55..... like a douche bag he is... still gonna fight it!

BTW: I did say my front tints were from the dealer right? the front windows are not even dark! you can see someone very clear.... like I said its rare I get traffic tickets, and when I do, its around the end of the damn month, where the police are looking to hurry up and pull people over b/s so they can tally up their little ticket points and show off like a boy scout to the chief of PD.... he could of been understanding and marked ATLEAST one of those things off, I was nice to him the whole time, but yet he wanted to be "officer ****" and act cool infront of his cadet.... LOL karma is a *****, he will one day get douche bagged too.

ON the brighter side of things, I forgot to mention, my girlfriends dad is a cop as well, and he said he'll mark my tickets off, since those things ARE fixing tickets.... the speeding, I will have to go to court for.

So I'll agree that this sucks. I've gotten all those tickets before in previous cars. Do they "Look" for these types of cars?...YES! I will also agree that you do have illegal tint in the front windows if it is tinted. You're not allowed to have any up front. The Hi Power is pretty loud. They are really supposed to use a db meter. The lights is so BS! Good luck with your fight.

I think you are confusing the word OEM. The dealer tinted your windows and that is not a factory thing (OEM = factory).

As has come up in past threads, modding your car (lights, exhaust, etc) makes it stand out to law enforcement. Whether it's legal or not, it's going to attract bad atttention along with the good. For evey individual, it's a personal choice as to whether it's worth the negatives or not.

not that i don't sympathize with what happened to the OP, but before everyone gets bent out of shape and bash said law enforcement officer(s) for their actions let's look at this objectively.

i see that you not only have the HKS hi-power but you also did the resonator delete. that'll create enough sound to tip off the officer to pull you over and cite you for a "modified exhaust system". (btw, the HKS hi-power system isn't "street legal", and there was/is/will be no 50-state-legal certificate for it.)

as far as the tint and the lighting, while i've never gotten a ticket for those as well (though most of that is from a change in driving habits/attitude) california vehicle code specifies the following:

the windshield and front driver's side and passenger's side windows cannot receive any aftermarket tinting.
(from here: http://www.chp.ca.gov/html/answers.html)

you were caught in an unfortunate circumstance, and it is what it is. if you can get your girlfriend's dad to write off the fix-it violations, go for it. again, to the OP, not that i sympathize with your situation (having received my fair share of traffic violations), but looking at it objectively the law enforcement officer was doing his job and you were simply "in the wrong place at the wrong time."

regardless of the outcome, hope you get this resolved.

FTP. I have been to court for the most hilarious tickets that would blow your mind. I could go on and on. Most all but one I have gotten out of. And it was the one that I was positive I would win. Always remember that almost 100% of the time the judge in the courtroom is an ex CHP and he's not on your team. The sales job you've gotta put out is that of a lawyer. You can however hope that your PO PO don't SHO...but in Los Angeles they most always do. Try and be as unemotional as possible. I got a ticket outside of LA in Kern county and they gave me the option to keep my record clean for 6 months (which I did) and they'd refund my money and wipe the ticket off of my record...this is something maybe LA county will offer? Sac county does not up here...I have tried. Either way you were speeding, but who isn't on the 101 when traffic is flowing?!?! Reschedule your court date as many times as possible and try to do it for around the same time as the ticket was issued. This will give you hope that the cop will either be working or forget...especially if you were nice and didn't give any lip. Although now I think theyre required to show. Knock on wood I haven't had a ticket in a while but NEVER ever hurts to go to court...6 out of the 7 tickets I have gotten in my years of driving have been fought and I have won. It is worth it.
