Orange County/LA locksmiths
Does anyone know a cheap place to get Lexus keys cut? I know Home Depot has an automatic key machine for regular keys but nothing for laser cut or "sidewinder" keys. Lowes? Sears? PepBoys? There used to be a website to find these locksmiths but it disappeared. When you Google laser cut keys now, you get these mobile or national companies pretending to be local. One "Anaheim" locksmith had a picture of the Chicago skyline on their web page. Maybe a "sticky" post where users can put local locksmiths with reasonable prices? Westminster Lexus in CA is getting around $90 for a dealer key including cut or $50 for a "eBay/Chinese" key re-using your guts. Which really is not that bad but considering you can buy uncut keys on eBay for $5 that's $45 more. Any ideas? Thanks

damn this thread is old, but i need a new key/fob for my 1998 lexus gs300. i have one key but the lock button doesn't work and i'm afraid i might lose it so now's a good time to get a replacement. i looked up the san gabriel superstore on yelp and no one mentions anything about keys so i'm a little wary about traveling all the way over there in the hopes that the locksmith is still there. has anyone had a key made in the orange county area? i live near south coast plaza, costa mesa/santa ana area. also, as i mentioned before i don't have the key code, just one master key, will that be a problem for a locksmith? Do I have to buy one of the key fobs/blanks on ebay or will the locksmith have it? I believe I saw them on ebay for $60 for 2 uncut. If I bring that to lexus of westminster will they cut it or will they say I have to buy theirs? Thanks for all your help!

Welcome to Club Lexus.
eBay is an economical choice. This listing for instance and there are others:

Having a key cut at the local dealer varies in price from $15-$35. You'd have to call around.

I went to Tin Locksmith (I think that was the name). It's just a small stand on the South West corner of Euclid and Westminster in Garden Grove. He sells keys there or you can buy it online and pay him to cut/program the key.
You'll need 1 master key to create another key that can start the car. If you had a valet key then they can only make another key to open your doors and trunk (can't start the car).

Thanks so much. I called Tin Locksmiths in Garden Grove. The guy was hard to understand, but he said he could sell me a new cut master remote for my 1998 LS400 for only $55.00. I have two other Lexus that I may have duplicates made for, if he ends up being as inexpensive as he says over the phone.

please update how it goes. i bought cut keys and the electronics on ebay and while the cut keys work to start the car i was not able to program the key fob. i tried the instructions a million times, and it wasn't consistent. sometimes i would be able to put it into programming mode several times in a row, other times i couldn't even get it into programming mode. at this point i'll pay someone to program the electronic part for me...

This is my first post.
I just bought a 1998 ls400. It has come with only one master key, no other keys.
I would like to have two extra keys, any suggestion?
I called a couple of locksmith for keys, but they say they donot copy car keys and I should go to dealer, which is an expensive solution.
Any suggestion?
Thanks

There is finally a solution to the Lexus broken key problem!! The best replacement on the market is called the Eternity Key. The others break and its costly to replace over and over. The Eternity Key is made of military grade materials, stronger than anything on the market, and has a lifetime warranty. Available at Lexus dealers or see www.eternitykey.com for dealers.
