If you know any locals on Oahu then crash at there place... Nothing beats free... But if you want a hotel then tell your friend who lives here go get a room the day you are coming, gotta be in advance though... Hotels give locals here Kamaaina discount rates since we live on island... Not sure if all the hotels does it though...

Thanks for the tips. Must try meals on the islands I have so far. Zippys (which we dont have in SD), Alan Wongs, Onos, Helenas, Matsumotos, Leonards. Whew!! Man I swear I'm going to gain a few with all the good eats.

Oh by the way, I'm thinkin about going to the PCC but not attending the luau there. I heard Paradise Cove was pretty good. Any opinions??

Very subjective. Popular choice, but I remember a few years back, they were ranked 4th in shave ice places. B&S (Liliha), Baldwins (Aiea), and Waiola (McCully) were above Matsumoto's. Not saying that the shave ice is junk, but I wouldn't drive out to the north shore just to have shave ice. While you're in town, definitely try Waiola shave ice. I know there's a 2nd location on Kapahulu, but I've never tried it. The original one is at 2135 Waiola St. (808) 949-2269.

I myself support Aoki's Shave Ice which is about 100ft from Matsumoto's, their one of my business accounts after all. Shave ice is shave ice no matter where you buy it from

Please few things to remember here in hawaii durring the wintertime, NEVER and i mean NEVER turn your back on the ocean, also if your a 'sports' guy speak with a lifeguard first about the water conditions before you go in, our surf isnt like cali surf and even small 3ft waves here are not like 3ft waves there. Just cuz you see little local kids playing in the surf doesnt mean its 'safe'.
