Thumbs down Honda civic transmission failure

Hey guys hows it going? Santa came early this year and took a dump on my parade.
Have few quick questions, my sisters 1996 Honda civic auto trans failed on Sunday the sis started the car put it in R and it went forward, then she tried again and same thing happened except one of the hoses blew and all the trany oil leaked out R.I.P ( Honda transmissions ftl)The best part is any parts and bills have to come out of my pocket since money is so tight these days im willing to help her out and save my parents the pain.I found out that the 1996-00 Honda civic auto trans had Linear Solenoid problems and would cause the trans to slip, the transmission shift harshly, or it stays in first gear. Was wondering if I should replace the linear solenoid, trans filter and do a full trans flush and hope it might fix it or should I just prepare my self for a new transmission?
-Anyone here owned a 96-00 civic with the same issues?
-Anyone here know of a place where i can purchase a used transmission for a fair price?
Here is the link with some info and the parts that tend to failhttp://autorepair.about.com/cs/faqs/l/bl127e.htm
Thanks in advance, any information would be greatly appreciated!

I have never heard of a tranny going out like that in a civic,

Wow that's a first i've heard on a 5th gen civic.

Definitely seek out a part at the junkyard first before pouring gobs of money on a new transmission. This car is 13 years old. No need to spend twice as much as the car is worth

I think every brand has their own quirks. Honda and their transmissions, BMW/Audi/Benz with their electrical stuff, Toyota and rattles (on current gen cars), etc.

Sucks but what can we do.

I understand, and I agree. I was just acting like a douche because i don't like surprises like my cars transmission going out. I was just venting
Going to get the car lifted up today and I will update when I have some free time.
