My car was hit while parked

My car got hit in Chicago, got eye witness and they said they got the plate# which i will be getting tomorrow morning. what can be done? i know i have to file police report, but will chicago police do anything about it? like track the person or something? what should i do?

After getting the license plate #, file a police report and a hit & run report with your insurance, then go from there...

Report it to your Insurance and the Police. If this was not the person that hit the car your insurance should pick this up with no out of pocket expense to you and your premium being effected. I had this happen once many years ago and I think I just had to sign some papers if they where to catch the person I wasnt able to go after them for anything??
