DIY-er's help needed.
Ok...so my car's hit 70k miles. I've skipped the 60k mile service. I'd like to do the 90k mile service in the next week or two.
I tend to be more of a DIY'er, but haven't really worked on the Lexus before. Anyone up for giving me a hand with what all is entailed with a 90k service? I need to know all the stuff (parts, fluids, etc.) that I should be flushing, replacing, etc. I've searched for 90k service for the 4.3L motor and haven't found anything on the site. I'm also looking for a recommendation of where to get all that I need; should I go with OEM replacement or not?; Here's what I'm assuming so far: Replace: Spark Plugs Serpentine belt Water pump Flush and fill: Radiator Motor oil Trans oil Diff Oil What else should I be doing? |
Wow. Pretty big job, good luck Urmil.

Otherwise, I'll be parting with $1500+ for parts and labor according to some other people I've talked to. |
Definitely go OEM esp, a timing belt and water pump.
Mobil1 synthetic does the job in the diff. Type 3 or newer in the trans. Keep it pink in the cooling system. Or red. Doing a pump on these cars is not that bad as long as you have experience with aligning TDC with your valvetrain. You'll need to drop the A/C compressor off to the side as well as the alternator. The rest is lining up your marks on your valvetrain. Make sure you're right or else you will need to take your heads to the machine shop for some new valves. VVTi motors have no forgiveness. (Zero clearance.) |
What car/truck are we talking about here?

I've got my Lexus tech friend that does all of my stuff. I'm sure he can do it MUCH cheaper for you. PM me if you're interested.

dont forget to bleed/flush brake fluid and inspect pad wear on all corners.
if you're doing spark plugs, you may consider adding plug wires, caps and rotors to the list. since you want to tackle the water pump, might as well do the cam seals, crank seal, timing belt idler pulleys, and timing belt tensioner since you will have that part of the engine torn down for the tb. seems a little premature to do this service at 70k. i'm not sure if i'd be much help, i dont know how different the procedure is for the vvti and non-vvti motors. |
I have full access to all data if you need anything Torque specs. procedures and what not.
