How does that even work? If I pull up to my local Sunoco, there's no pump jockey; just a cashier inside the store.
Since you are in PA, I can't answer that for your state, but in Virginia, there is a printed procedure on the pump itself for those who are disabled and/or need someone inside to come out and assist them.
Exceptions can be made for the disabled, as they are in other states.
Why can't the people of NJ want something that is different from what you want? People in NJ like having people pump their gas. You don't live in NJ, so why do you care?
As an outsider visiting NJ it bugs me, but what I think doesn't matter because I don't live there.
When I was younger, I've been known to squeeze myself into that spot on the left (assuming the black Edge/Escape wasn't there), and put my folded mirror 1/2" off their driver's door. Care too much about my cars to do that now though.

Whether they do or not, though, is irrelevant to the point I was trying to make. Still seems odd that 49 states would want something one way, and one state a holdout. It simply doesn't jive with human nature or the mathematical law of averages.

I'll agree with that. Neither of us have to put up with forced full-service in MD or VA.

It's the same way we in the USA hold out not using the metric system lol. I'm glad we don't use it.
And yes, on another topic....taking up two spaces is sure way to get your car keyed.

Life is odd. Nobody else has had 70 years of compulsory full service, so they haven't had to make that decision to move away from that. If every state had the history with full service NJ does you have no idea how those other states would vote.
Having a wife from NJ and spending time in NJ, NJ is different than the rest of the US in a lot of ways. They have unique ways of doing things and they don't like to be told that they need to do things a specific way. They like to do their own thing, and they have a very strong identity and pride in their state, and feel that there is a NJ "way of life". There is a very strong culture there that is unique. Good for them I say.
Thats the great thing about living in a country with different states...they don't all have to be the same.

Totally agree. Let people in a given area do what they like.
In addition to not trusting minimum wage employees to wipe their own ***, I often need the excuse to get out and stand for 10 minutes while I'm filling up.
