Dumping that much dough in a car I want to have the feeling of true luxury and success. Not a nice car. Do we have time to explain our purchase and why we didn't get a Lexus.

It's shallow and its also shallow of people to not think that at about 40-50k, prestige plays big in a car buyers purchase. Why 525s selll like absolute hotcakes. People like being associated with success and an image and brand that say BMW potrays.
I am saying Infintii is not even close to that and it may keep buyers away like the current M45/Q45. Clearly at 27-40k and the hot-selling G35, that is not a problem what so ever.
I will also add with this cars new photos, I have totally fogotten about the new RL.

Doesn't that just burn you up?
I'm sure the story will be the same with the new generations.

I was beside a G35c in downtown Charleston (buildings on both sides - yay for reverb!! - late at night) and when it took off (apparently he thought I had done something to my car - but I've only got all 145hp that came w/ it) I couldn't hear anything aside from that wonderful exhaust or see anything except his tailights fading into the distance.
Needless to say - I want a G35c like the ocean (tide) wants the moon. That VQ motor+exhaust is just terrific.
Can't wait to see/hear the new M45.

The new GS already has that going for it though. Lexus has become one of the strongest players in the Luxury realm, so much so that it's customers have indicated a need for a vehicle above and beyond the LS430 in price. Lexus has built a very strong and prestigeous brand image for itself, and it's something people WANT to buy into, even if just on the bottom end like the IS300. The same cannot be said for Infiniti. We will for sure see a $100,000 Lexus in the future, and possibly a second in 3-4 years. Customers are indicating that they want Lexus to take that next step in terms of image. The GS already has a loyal fanbase, and many of those people will be selling or turning in their 2nd gen cars for the new 3rd gen. There are also IS300/ES330 customers who will likely be moving up and into the new GS.
There are two things the GS already has rolling in it's favor, and two things the M45 already has going against it. "Move up" buyers are the one positive thing that both cars will have working in their favors.
What exactly do you mean by "GS Killer" though? If you're talking about sales, see the argument above, but if you're talking about performance, read on. Remember back in late 2001 when the new LS430 and Q45 came out? Remember how the 290HP LS430 was quicker than the 340HP Q45? The new GS is going to use the same close ratio 6spd automatic as used in the '04 LS430, whereas the new M will use the same 5Spd automatic that's currently being employed by the Q45, FX45, and existing M45 (V8), and the G35 and FX35 (V6). Six gears will be quicker than five off the start, and although the Lexus cars are down on stated HP (245HP GS300 vs. ~280HP M35, ~300HP GS430 vs. ~340HP M45), Lexus uses some of the most efficient automatic transmissions in the business when it comes to power loss. Toyota and Lexus cars typically lose 12-15% of power through their automatics, which is considerably LESS than most automakers. Weight will be another issue. The new GS isn't growing that much compared to the current model, and I think the new M is expected to be a reasonable bit bigger than the existing one. We'll have to see how things pan out as far as weight is concerned. Really though, I think it's childish to make comments about which car will "kill" the other when they're both 7-8Months away from release and we don't even know the final HP Figures for the Infinitis, nor the GS430. As it stands now though, I'm going to predict that their horsepower advantage will help the Infinitis, but the Lexus cars are going to use 6spd automatics. I think the performance race will be about dead even, but then again, I'll wait until February to make any final analyses.

The 2001 was the slowest Q45 ever made. The early 90s was the fastest. The new V8 is very powerful and would run circles around the GS430.

Like I've posted in another thread, Infiniti has a lot of things going against them, things Lexus doesn't have to worry about. The new M is a very, very critical car to the future of Infiniti. This is the next step for Infiniti in rebuilding their brand image, and that could prove to be a double edged sword for Infiniti. For one, people aren't going to be flocking into Infiniti showrooms to plunk down $53K on an Infiniti when their most successful models haven't really been above $36K or so (G35). G35 owners who have had a positive ownership experience and have been saving their pennies will be Infiniti's best bet as far as customers are concerned. It's just like how Lexus takes many owners from ES330s to LS430s, and from IS300s to GS300s or 430s. That is ONE thing Infiniti has going for them. If the new M is truly a well rounded, well built, and world class car, then theres no reason people shouldn't buy it though.
