Default Additional Dealer Options - Need help

This is my first post to this forum so forgive me if I am posting in the wrong area.
I am purchasing my dream car: New 2022 Lexus ES 300h Luxury
The car was ordered and should be here within a few days. I thought everything was settled until the manager called me with lots of additional options they can provide. I have no idea if any of these are worth it or not. I thought posting here people could tell me things like "Don't get that" or "Definitely worth the money." So, with that said, here we go...

1 - Clear Mask Plastic Film to the front bumper, 1/4 of the hood, sideview mirrors, door edges and inserts: $1366
2 - Warranty service contract: Go from 4 years 50,000 miles to 10 years 100,000 miles. Prices are $250 deductible at $4,440 or $500 deductible $4,131.
3 - PrePaid Maintenance: I get one year complimentary. I can add 4 additional years at $2,520
4 - Lux Care Protection - a ceramic coating, 7 years, no deductible $1,498
5 - Nano cure windshield protection - 5 years for $1,399. He said while my insurance company would pay for a rock chip repair they will not pay for the sensors
6 - 341 Protection for 5 years $1,523. This covers dent repair, rock chip repair, tire and wheel repair.

If it helps: I'm single. Work 50% remote and commute 60 miles round trip when I do go into town. Retiring in September 2023 so commute will go away, however, I will be taking road trips from time to time.

What do you all think?

Forget it all. They are ridiculous, high-mark-up, profit generators for the dealer. The odds are extremely slim you will use any of that over the course of time. And it's a Lexus, which are bullet-proof. Please say no and save your money.

Don't buy ANY of it. All of it can be done better at a quality shop for less. $1,400 for instance will get you the FULL HOOD and fenders in paint protection film...

I agree with Fizzboy and SW. Decline all of this stuff. After you've had the car a while and determine you need or want any of these items you can find shops that will do higher quality work at better prices. Dealers normally contract out a lot of these items to local installers anyway. If/when you decline, be prepared for the dealer to apply the pressure to you - They make a ton of profit on these things. Good luck.

hi and welcome!

i'm going to be quite frank; these are just dealership "fluff" to make more money on their end (where most dealerships make their revenue from - it's not from the sale of the car any longer).
lots of these things you can get outside for a fraction of the cost if they are really important to you.

funny i just watched a youtube video that said 55% of extended warranties are never used. i can link the video but it might derail the topic.
it really depends on your needs and if the dealership is close to you to perform the services. if it were me, i would pass on everything listed there despite the conveniences they may provide to you. all the best!

Agree with the others, decline everything. All padded, mostly profit.

With that said, if you car shows signs of being slightly unreliable and/or if you're keeping the car long term then extended warranties can sometimes be worth it but it's quite possible/likely that you may also be able to get the same warranties elsewhere for much less. To give a couple of examples, I got a warranty for my son's car for under 50% of the dealer's asking price AND that warranty paid out for a new touchscreen 9 years from purchase (the parts alone were twice what I paid for the warranty), and I have a warranty on one of my other cars that cost me around a third of the "list" price. Absent buying it close to cost, with a Lexus you can probably roll the dice.

Also so you know, you can buy the extended warranty all the way up until the factory warranty expires, so you will have 50k miles to decide if you want it.

Do you service your own cars? If not, you might consider the dealer maintenance plan.
That price is negotiable. Very negotiable.

Good luck and enjoy your new Lexus!

100% this. Have a shop do it instead since you will also get to pick the film type

Building on the saving money theme, if you really want to go all out, the ES will only require oil/filter changes till about 30k miles. If you use a dealer coupon (most offer it), you can request an oil change only and that will likely run you under $100 per visit. So a few of those over the course of the years will be a few hundred bucks, vs. the thousands the dealer is quoting you. Save your money. The ES will be one of the most reliable cars anyone can own.

Another new member!
Welcome to Club Lexus, glad you are here!

I agree with everyone else and none of this stuff adds one dollar to the value of the car.
And- you will be paying tax and interest on this too so plz add that to the cost.

I'll just pick on one of these and leave some for everyone else. haha
"5 - Nano cure windshield protection - 5 years for $1,399. He said while my insurance company would pay for a rock chip repair they will not pay for the sensors"

Ok- problem with this statement is they say your insurance company won't pay for the sensors- and they know this how?
Other problem with this statement is by contrast they are implying their Nano Cure "WILL" cover rock chips & windshield sensors- I would get some clarification on this because I don't think so.
One last thing, I think it's an exaggeration to imply this product protects from rock chips at all.

Nano Cure looks like RainX to me.

Nano Cure video he talks about a molecular bond- this is nothing fancy since they don't specify what kind of molecular bond- RainX also makes a molecular bond.
PS- Turtle Wax or any quality product also rubs on and buffs off easy and works good too and call it "molecular bonding" if you like. lol

Hint- what happens in a few months if the product wears off? Do you have to make an appointment with the dealership to re-appy product and do you want to do that?
All this is just my ideas and opinions.

Default Thank you!

Thank you everyone! This has been so re-assuring. I put money away each month into a "car" savings account. When I have service done on my car I transfer money out for it. I have about $6,000 in this account now (my current Kia Rio has been relatively trouble free--even over 100,000 miles). I was going to use some of this money to buy some of those features if you all recommended any. I think I will keep my money and also continue with the contributions. I'll consider it "self-insuring" against something major that could happen in the future. It's funny. I spent a year figuring out what I wanted for my "dream car" in retirement. All my reading pointed to Lexus. Not just comfort and features but overall reliability. I have to remember that and not get coerced into things I don't really need.

also dont have to do all the suggested maintenance, just change the oil with full synthetic every 7500-10k miles, rotate tires 7500 miles and youre already ahead of 90% of people.

They are going to put a lot of pressure on you to get a bunch of the things you listed and almost make you feel guilty. Do not fall for any of it and stay strong. Basically just say you just want the car, nothing else. Don't fall for the extended warranty price being cheaper now than later stuff they tell you or how much the prepaid maintenance will save you.
