Engines…nowhere close. Mercedes, Audi and BMW all furthered themselves with their V12/W12 options way back in the 1990s. Lexus can’t command the same prices as the Germans.
but back to G90…they really could have put the brand on a pedestal if they put a V8 in the new G90…heck..imagine a V12. Genesis can’t be a S580 if don’t offer a V8
Yeah I agree, its really annoying and I wish they'd kept the V8 in place. However, the new supercharged V6 I briefly tested was super smooth... so I guess between that, how inefficient (in terms of MPG) their engines are, and the rapid onset of the all electric future Genesis are aggressively pushing... there probably isn't a place to do further R&D on the V8 anymore.
moclippa welcome and congratulations! fabulous car. sounds like you got supercharged one. what colors?
Thanks! Thats right about the supercharged one. I got mine in a Verbier White exterior with a Obsidian Black / Bordeaux Brown Two-tone interior. Which is the same as the one in most of the press shots.
I personally wanted the Halassan Green, which my dealer didn't have in stock, and I already own a GV80 in Carbon Metal so I didn't want the Makalu Gray, which is quite similar
nice. if you don't mind me asking, where are you?
and of course, we need pics and impressions when you can.
i had a 2018 g90 by the way. very much enjoyed it. your new one is a whole new level though.
Prestige is a huge part of buying this kind of car, and most people who are German sedan buyers won’t consider the G90, regardless of whether or not it might be objectively superior.
That might be true.... but from personal experience I can say that my family (as well as some of the inlaws) all now have at least one Genesis in each house. We are traditionally buyers of Porsche, BMW, Mercedes, Range Rover and Jaguar. And we live in a country where owning a Lexus LX is as good as owning gold (we own two).
I think the automotive world is changing, and the competition that Lexus kicked off against the big German brands, with a combination of performance, quality value and reliability, is now only getting more competitive with the current era of great cars we are seeing come out of Genesis. Lexus has historically carved a niche for itself in the price range it plays in, and now that Genesis is crowding it there, they will either have to grow that market segment together, or the competition will push them need to innovate and move up and nip even further at the heels of the German brands.
I'm in Bahrain. I'll be sure to post some photos and update with impressions and photos when I have some time with it after it comes back from the PPF next week!
Nice to have you, moclippa. I think you're the first member of CL I've met living in the Middle East, so I welcome your first-hand perspective of the car market there. Genesis was selling cars in the Middle East before they even reached Europe and China, so it's interesting to hear how about the brand from you.

As promised here are a few exterior shots of the car (I'll update this post with interior shots once I get a chance to). And for those of you curious there is a shot of the rear without any badges (removed because I preferred full wrap in the rear and not to cut around the letters. We will be putting the GENESIS logo back on but leaving the model designation and AWD off.
De-bagged and naked rear In PPF Post PPF curing next to a gray G90 waiting its turn to PPF
