Pretty much everything is soft touch, right down to the lower door panels. Nice touches abound, like the foam in the bottom of the door pockets to keep things quiet if they slide around, the rear seat belt extenders, the large (for the time) navigation screen, color HUD, etc.

I always thought the 1GS was incredibly comfortable and I loved the EL gauge cluster. I found the 2GS edgy, and pushing Lexus in a new and exciting direction. I thought the 3GS was luxurious and very well put together. And as noted, I am smitten with the 4GS interior. I would have loved to see what they would have come up with for a 5GS.

For CD changers, I liked it in my 2011 Tacoma where you just loaded all 6 CDs right into the head unit. I used that a lot, but it's not something I would use now with streaming, of course.
2nd Gen GS interior was very nice, I liked it, it was missing some things and mine was kind of spoiled by hard/waxy leather I could not soften up and that shiny orange wood trim but I still really liked it. 6 cd changer in the glovebox was nice and always worked.

I never really cared too much for the 3rd Gen interior or really 3rd Gen GS. When I sat in it while it was definitely more modern but it did not feel very solid, materials felt like a step down from my 2nd Gen and like they may not last as long or could start degrading, kind of hollow feeling, not as plush. I did not really care for how it drove either, it was not as smooth but it did not handle very well nor was it fun to drive, just a rougher ride. Looks were a big miss, too narrow, did not like the fast back design. I liked the LS460 of the era much better, I even thought the IS350 was a little better executed in some ways, it certainly was better looking and more fun to drive.

4th Gen interior I did not care for when I saw it in pics, pre refresh LS460 I still liked better and I hoped they would go for a different design like combining a CT, HS, and LS and then something unique and nicer for the GS but I really liked the exterior design especially with the F sports. I remember seeing a brand new black F Sport when it came out with tinted windows and dark grey wheels and it just looked really good. I warmed up to the GS interior when I saw a Luxury model with the dark wood and rear controls. After test driving a few I grew to like it and when I got mine I have become even a bigger fan, just about everything is high quality, nicer then my 2nd Gen GS and it just has so many more features/luxury, nicer leather, etc. It is one of Lexus's best all around interior designs and execution. The only issues I have with it are rear seat room is kind of tight which is odd considering it has rear seat controls, I would prefer a better layout and more buttons for audio instead of them being kind of hidden, wish it had a disc changer and hard drive like my dads TLX, not really a fan of the mouse interface but that is pretty universal for most cars,

maybe the only thing i'd like to change is have the mode button on the steering wheel be an up/down rocker switch like the temperature controls since i'm 99% only interested in switching the multi-function display between instantaneous MPG and tank average, but to go from tank average back to current MPG you have to cycle through all the readouts and it adds like 3-4 seconds to the procedure... #LSproblems lol

it's like one of those 90s high quality japanese receivers, i actually prefer it without the NAV since that hasn't aged as timelessly and the buttons all become smaller, although if i had NAV in my car i'm sure i'd somehow convince myself it's better looking lol

the other benefit is the interior looks great even when the car is off, a tesla when it's on looks cool with that big screen lit up but otherwise it's just bland blank space... also physical buttons don't move and provide real time feedback if you're not pressing them correctly, as well as just providing a nice topography lol

As much as NAV may have been convenient in some situations I did not want NAV in my 2nd gen GS430 either because it got rid of physical buttons for touch screen buttons and I just did not think it looked good or was integrated all that well when I saw one, not sure if that Gen could play DVD's, that would be kind of cool but I test drove one with NAV and just didn't think I would want it. I made out just fine in my GS430, I have a pretty good sense of direction and if I needed I just wrote out directions from map quest. With my GS350 I definitely wanted NAV because all have that screen and it is a nice feature plus the graphics look good/fine to me now, I really don't like entering addresses or listening to the directions, I just like having a view of where I am at, what roads are near, and how to get back out of some big neighborhoods/parts of the city by just looking at the dots where I already drove.

My dad had a nice Denon and Yamaha receiver, heavy, metal chassis, lots of buttons on the receiver and remotes, just looked high quality and nice to use. We just got a 4K Sony Blu Ray player and I just can't believe how small and chintzy looking/feeling it is, the remote looks so cheap, so small, only has 2 or 3 outputs, nothing like previous VHS, DVD, old Blu Ray player that look and feel way more substantial with much nicer remotes despite not being as capable, they were more expensive, I guess I can't complain much when this new 4K Blu Ray player was only $149.

Yep, me too, the 2GS was my favorite car that I owned. There was a 2GS with only 13k miles on ebay this summer, I bid on it but lost the bid. Probably a good thing, since the last thing I need is another car.

Yes, I agree. I have the same vehicle (2004 GS430) and take very good care of the interior too. The craftsmanship is very good.
