He's got the 08' Si Sedan, and a '67 Chevelle SS currently. The only two cars he considered before putting down the deposit on the Type-S was a Model Y (he's the friend that works at Tesla), and the Type-R. He doesn't have solar, and wanted at least one more ICE car before switching to EV. We went to a Honda dealer about 2 months ago but they wouldn't let us drive the Type-R and they were marking the car up $10K because it was 'limited'. It was very off putting. On the drive back we stopped and drove a TLX 2.0 SH-AWD, which sold him on Acura, just needed a little more oomph hence he waited for the Type-S.

Raiti's Rides says 0-60 in 4.4 seconds... seems the numbers are all over the place.

Well here is a video of it getting it's doors blown off repeatedly by an S4. In comparison to other cars in class, the S4 isn't all that fast either.

overall, I think it's a really average car that will sell well enough. I really like the exterior though. In certain trim levels and colors, it has nice presence.

wow, well i think this is the main difference. (300lbs)



overall, I think it's a really average car that will sell well enough.
i think there will be very few takers for the type s.

Similarly equipped the S4 is just about $62k... I don't think it is ~$8k faster. That's a couple thousand away from a CT4 Blackwing.

You can get really good deals on the S4 though so a good one can be had for mid $50k. The TLX will probably end up being the slowest in that class but will have the lower maintenance cost vs the Germans and decent long-term reliability. It just isn't going to provide anything meaningful to the Acura brand. It seems like a wasted opportunity

So much for those claims about the Type S beating the S4 at the track demonstration lol.

In all fairness, it really ought to be raced against the A6 and other midsizers with similar dimensions and weight. Putting it up against the compact segment will be embarrassing.

Acura hasn't performed well on either JD Power or Consumer Reports in years, so I doubt it.

Gotta compare apples to apples here, MSRP to MSRP... I think the TLX-S will have the same deals after the initial rush. Right now, though, not many deals to be had with the current car market so I doubt the S4 is selling with that heavy of a discount.

The maintenance is enough to scare me away from Audi, even though they're gorgeous vehicles.

Would be pretty awesome if they did a Type R in a few years with 450+ hp. The motor has all forged internals, seems like it's ready for more boost.

It's been 20 years since the Type R sub-brand was replaced by Type S in the Acura lineup, I don't expect they'll ever go back on that.
