Not surprised with some of the quality issues with the Y though it seems to be better than when the 3 launched. However, it's still nowhere near Lexus or the German luxury brands but I agree with some of the comments - that looks like damage post-build.

Yes, QC could and should be better, that much is clear. Sure, you won't see Lexus-like build quality with Tesla for a while. But you have to also look at things as a whole. The over-the-air updates Tesla sends out are often delivering very significant enhancements, some of which are impacting the actual fundamentals of the car - things like increases in range, unlocking additional performance, significant improvements in UI and features, the ability to add things like FSD after the fact.
These aren't minor things, and while OTA upgrades are not exclusive to Tesla, the magnitude of the upgrades is. You're not seeing MPG enhancements or performance increases from other manufacturers post purchase, delivered via technology updates. You're not seeing core functionality improve over time the way it does with a Tesla. And this is not insignificant. It's a fundamental of the brand and it's a fundamental that speaks to owners. And I'd argue that if we accept, as we should, that no one manufacturer has every box ticked here you're likely to see Tesla be able to improve QC at a faster clip than you're likely to see others catch up to where Tesla is with their technical leadership. No one, today, combines the build quality of say Lexus with the technical leadership of Tesla. So customers of all brands are having to make choices. And these choices speak to the philosophical difference between Tesla and the likes of Lexus/BMW/MB and others. The likes of Lexus/MB/BMW are car companies that to one degree or another leverage technology components in the vehicles they make and sell. Tesla is the polar opposite. It is a technology company that happens to make cars. Cliché, but true. And it's one reason why their stock behaves the way it does. Tesla simply isn't like the others. |
a high tech car without a heads up display option? fail.

Shocking.
Not really lol. |

I get that Tesla wants to have a "quirky tech" image, but there's no excuse for these omissions that are available even on the cheapest compact sedans. |

There is a blind spot monitor on the central screen. Once you get used to it, it's easy. I guess they could offer 360 camera view but not really a deal breaker for most like the lack of HUD. Honestly would rather have ventilated seats than either of those features. |
I personally have never cared for a HUD

Late model BMW HUD's are among the best. I've gotten used to them and the HUD has become a must have for me. I'm sure they'll continue to evolve into something different but for now I gotta have one.
