Lincoln kills off the MKZ
It's a shame what has happened to Lincoln, once a pretty respected luxury car brand reduced to selling only dumpy SUV's.
If they actually put the effort into cars, put them on RWD platforms, gave them the same quality interiors as the Navigator I think they would have sold much better, nobody is going to really miss the MKZ but the Continental was a pretty decent effort, pretty much my favorite US sedan for the past 10 or so years when considering the whole package, I see a lot of them on the road and they look pretty nice. I hope with the next Mustang they refine the platform a little more, allow it to have AWD so Lincoln can get a RWD sedan or coupe.
Was watching "The Irishman" and recognized those old Lincoln Conti's with the suicide doors, they were sharp cars back then.

"Dumpy SUVs" are what buyers want, and the ones Lincoln is making right now are really good.
The Aviator and Explorer are already on the Mustang platform. They could make a sedan or coupe with it no problem...but...that market is really soft. You can't blame them

You were like too many other buyers.who considered the MKZ but didn't buy one. It's too bad that more considerations didn't turn in to actual sales.
In my region, you do see a number of them on the road....just like you do almost everything else. But you are correct....across the nation as a while, the hype and attractiveness of the new Lincoln SUVs has clearly overshadowed it.
Actually, I like both vehicles. There are advantages and disadvantages to both. The difference is, though, that the Corsair is going to be around for a while and the MKZ isn't.
Personally, I would have liked to have seen Lincoln rework the interior of the MKZ with the same excellent materials it uses in the Corsair/Aviator/Navigator, but the company planners apparently didn't feel it was worth it.

Well, as far as that platform is concerned, although the Mustang is technically a pony car, you could consider it a coupe. Or are you referring to a luxury/upscale coupe?

The word "pony car" is just marketing speak. Its a coupe. And if the Explorer platform can be used to make a Mustang, it can be used to make a luxury coupe or sedan for Lincoln. Thats how these modular platforms work
If the next Mustang does share a platform with the Aviator then it should be much easier for Lincoln to have a RWD sedan/coupe that can offer AWD.

I don't think the Aviator and Explorer are on the Mustang platform. Ford Explorer is on a platform called the CD6 which it shares with the Aviator, the Mustang was on D2C platform for 2004-2014 and it is hard to find any concrete info what the current one is on or what exactly that platform is called, maybe S550 but that is more the current gen Mustang. There were rumors the Mustang may grow significantly in size and move to the CD6 platform but I don't think it did it yet and may not for a while, probably 2026, and if it does the platform will be heavily modified to allow a Mustang to be on it.
