2020 Telluride vs 2020 Highlander
toyota infotainment and technology in general are absolutelly outdated hot garbage vs the competing brands, they tend to play it a little too safe. like if the target demographiccs are 70+ year olds that cannot understand new tech.
i'm actually surprised someone mentions the toyota has better materials, since when? they are full of cheap chinese plastics last time i rode one.
the Telluride is just a better vehicle, although reliability is something that cannot be determined yet. The toyota does have an impeccable reliability record.

Surprisingly, after years of trailing the competition, the Toyota excels with infotainment.

Just like ANY top company, complacency will kill them. Koreans are catching up. Sales relying on loyalty and brand is old skool, almost non existent in my observation. You dont evolve and catch up, you snooze.

I think you're forgetting that I'm a 9 time Toyota owner, and I have owned at least one Toyota continuously for the past 22 years. I'm a Toyota fan, but there is absolutely truth in the idea that people just buy what they know. I've bought cars for years that I knew were not the best cars in their segments because they were what I was used to and what I felt comfortable with.
However, the competition has gotten so good and Toyota has stagnated to an extent that it's hard for me to continue doing that, because I'm really missing out on a lot.

Here at CL, every time there is new Sonata, it is death of Camry and Toyota. Now look back at 2 last gens of Sonata, and neither impacted Toyota sales and also look back at their resale value, they are all much lower valued vehicles now.
We here literally had same discussion in 2014/2015 when new Sonata was out and was Camry killer - now lets look at it 5-6 years later - it is significantly less used value, so despite being cheaper it also retained less value than Camry, plus who would today recommend 2015 Sonata over Camry?
2020 Highlander in every way is better vehicle than 2019 - it is way more luxurious, it is more spacious, it has better powertrain, better suspension, better NAV... everything.
It will absolutely kill everything in sales.
Now, I would never buy one - it is soccer mom vehicle for me personally, but again it does not mean that Toyota does not know their target market.
What I would like the best is you trying both and seeing what you like the best personally, being TMC fan. As to the hybrid, it is not "just one thing", it is huge difference and something they absolutely killed the class with as there is simply nothing even remotely similar.
Read some posts and it sounds like we are arguing about BMW and Lexus. I have been looking for a 7 person SUV even though we are only a family of 3. Currently we only have a 06 Lexus IS350, which I love and no car or insurance payments but had to rent a pu truck a few times a month for moving things. I manage and own rental and a airbnb and have to move ladders, equipment, etc. I checked onto putting a trailer hitch on the 06 but came to the conclusion it was not a good idea and my car has almost 200k miles. I could buy a 5 seater SUV but with a 7 I will have more options. as my Kids come with my grandchildren yearly. I have looked at Hyundai's Palisade, my wife and I like the style better than its Kia's sibling. There is no denying that the Palisade is a lot of bang for the buck but I am concerned about reliability and it is a front wheel drive. The only other SUV I have considered is the Highlander mainly because it is a Toyota and I have had good experience with Lexus and they do make a hybrid but unfortunately it has poor reviews. Compared to the Palisade the interior felt cramped and chintzy. My wife was impressed with the Palisade, its looks and features. I am not sure if I am willing to pay $50k for a Hyundai. Maybe it just a bias. My last 3 other vehicles have been Lexus but unfortunately the RX350 XL? The third row is really a waste.
