Angry Update on RX8 purchase. BADDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD!!

Been on the RX8 forums and although everyone and there moms love the enjoy the RX8, there has been much talk about discrepenicies on the factory labeled 250hps. Looks like Mazda has started sending letters too customers saying that they screwed up and the car only has about 239hps!!! That by itself is also probably BS and power is still lower. They are offering free service for the warranty on the car or giving the option of buy back. I was previously looking at the Z, but dont know what the heck too do now. Help!!!!!

Do you love the car other than this discrepancy? If so, then just keep it and take your free warranty work. They are also supposedly offering a 500 dollar check in addition to the free warranty work.

If you kind of regret buying the car now then just take this as your opportunity to have owned one for a short while and go get a 350Z or G35!

I agree. What do statistics matter if you enjoy driving the car and it has enough actual HP to keep you happy? I took a look at the RX-8 yesterday and was pretty impressed with both the exterior and interior. When all is said and done, whether you're happy or not depends on what you're looking for in a car. If this car has it, hold onto it. If not, turn it in and move on!

i believe you have to buy the rx-8 before tuesday to be eligible for the $500 and free maintenance. after that time, all bets are off. i guess they figure that by that time, you KNOW that the car has the newly advertised HP.

I bet Mazda will rectify the HP problem, but how soon is anyones guess. I remember Ford had a similar problem w/ its SVT Mustangs a couple of years ago and eventually made the necessary changes.

At least Mazda is offering the RX8 buyers for this mistake. Nissan has always advertised their 3.5 Maxima to have more HP than 3.5 Altima but all mazazine tests have proven the Altima is faster than Maxima. Nissan hasn't done a thing to explain about this.

Though Mazda has admitted the problem this is 2 in a row. They did the same with the Miata. I am also reading people getting 14mpg. Nissan does overstated HP numbers left and right.

The 350Z is looking better now.

you took the words right out of my mouth.

Did you buy the RX-8 so you could say to your friends, "yeah, well i got 250 HP!" or because of the way the car drove. It's not like the performance suddenly suffered once they released this new information. The car is still the same car, and if driving it pleases you, then you shouldn't be so ashamed to own one.

Let the test drive be the decision maker, not the reported stats. Whatever decision you do make will probably be a good one, let us know how it turns out

and how many people buy this car and drive it straight to the nearest dyno to test the factory HP claims. Anyone ever heard of a break-in period????
